Basically after I heard my brothers audioengine a5's I started becoming hooked on upgrading my computer/tv/movies/music speakers. I use my tv for all 3 mostly for movies though. My room is relatively small at 12x15x8 but has a BAD echo.

Through research I figured I would use my 650$ budget I have now to build a 2.0 system then try and upgrade later with a sub then finally fill it out to a 5.1

This is the build im looking at.
Receiver:
Onkyo 606 300$ +S/T

Speakers: (fronts)
Paradigm Atom Monitors roughly 275$

After I get more funds im looking at

Sub:
Dayton SUB-120 HT 155$ + S/T

My first question is how does the 2.0 look? Can I save money and get a cheaper receiver? I still really want the single hdmi to tv feature and some kind of audussy. With the sub included wheres the weakpoints? anything I should spend more or less on or change?

Also anyone have recommendations for the Rears and central? Around 300?

Finaly what can I do about the Echo in my room? Will that make everything sound terrible?

Thank you so much for the feedback. If theres anything else you need to know let me know.

:D

if the room has a bad echo, some of that money should probably go to room treatments. i cant say anything about the paradigms or the onkyo though, but i have the dayton 120 and it sure is nice :D

I'm looking into some acoustical treatments for my room. I have almost no echo, but would still like to catch some reflections. I'm eyeing this site:

Also if you want to research the B2030P, search away. Plenty of info on the forums about 'em. It's possible to get 3 pairs for as low $345 + tax (if applicable) with price matching.

I've never heard any Paradigms before. :( Too spendy for me anyways.

Im actualy thinking about changing my receiver to a HK AVR 254.

When I go out to listen to speakers Im definately taking a look at the Behringers.

The sound treatments actually look pretty cool, I just wish they were cheaper.

Anyone else have any thoughts on it?

Sound treatments can be dirt cheap.

Fiber costs 10 bucks for a rolls at home depot.

You can use 1" x 4" to frame it and home depot can cut the lumber for you.
I'd do it, but I'm married and the living room is our home theater atm.

As far as speakers go Pick up the Beheringer's. Get only 4 and forget doing a center. Most folks don't need one anyway.

300 bucks. Then pick up the HK AVR 254 for around 220 of ebay.

You'd have surround sound for around 520. Then you could spend the res on that Dayton sub. make sure you get it here(3 year warranty, great customer service and free shipping)

You'd be set for a long time with that setup.

I got a pack of 4 2'x 4' x 4" thick sheets of mineral wool for 30 bucks at menards used strips of half in ply cut to width for the frame. i have done 2 and they work pretty good.. I think I'm just going to order 2" panels from mcmaster carr for the rest as these are kinda heavy. the ply wood I already had laying around my cost is mineral wool and cloth to cover it.
