muffled voice after replacing speaker housing

All right this is a wierd problem that has happened to me 4 times at 4 different places. I'm puttting in new drive thru menu sighns and the old speakers were taking out are working perfect. Well when we pet the new sign up with the speakers in place already were getting a muffled sound, makes it really hard to understand anybody. I thought it was just because old tech to new. Well on the 4th store I happened to have a wireless head set and a stationary speaker mic system. After replacing the speakers outside My wirless lost some volume but I was able to compensate for it. The stationary speaker mic system lost everything??? So the only difference in theses old and new speakers is the housing which went from full metal to 1/4 metal 3/4 plastic. Oh the louder you turn it up the worse the interference.

If I understand this, you salvaged the old speakers, minus their boxes, and are trying to install them in the new signs with different boxes?

Are these speaker boxes or just the new sign's internal space is the box? Is the system powering the speakers the same? Wiring? Something has changed enough to cause this problem. Need more troubleshooting as it is not jumping at me.

Do the new enclosures obstruct the speakers?

You need many holes in the enclosure in front of the speaker in order to let the sound out. If the okd enclosures had them, and the new ones dont, or have fewer, then the sound could be prevented from exiting the enclosure.
