Hmmm.. Michael Bay does Freddy Krueger, sans Robert England, plus a sequence involving the history of how Freddy came to be what he was/is? I'm in. But not for Michael Bay's sake - but because the trailer seems to indicate the franchise is starting fresh, removed from the corny silliness that it became with the England era, and has taken itself back to it's dark, sinister roots.

It will either be a hit or miss. All these remakes in recent years... who can keep up with them all.
Some times it's a good thing when they remake a movie and bring it back to it's dark roots. Like Batman, Friday the 13th, and Halloween.

As far as Batman goes, TOTALLY agree. The new Dark Knight saga is incredible and in retrospect Christian Bale now seems the only obvious actor to strap on the batsuit. Heath Ledger's rendition of the Joker... well, 'nuff has been said on that amazing performance that I don't even need to go there.

Plus I've enjoyed the Rob Zombie versions of Halloween, etc., so this is why I'm willing to give Freddy a chance. My only reservation is the fact Michael Bay is directing it.

Can you imagine what Rob Zombie could do with Nightmare on Elm St.

My thoughts are that he would do an excellent job with the overall feel and storyline - the guy has deep roots in old school horror flicks and has a very unique understanding of the genre. Might be a bit less flashy (visually) than say, a Michael Bay rendition, but I'd favor Zombie over Bay in a heartbeat! :) Michael Bay should just stick to transforming robot movies, IMHO.

Denzel has long been one of my favorite actors - I've rarely seen anything with him that failed to impress me. Good lord his role in "Man on Fire" alone was pure gold - I liked the Taking of Pelham 123, but in my opinion what limited that movie was the script more so than the acting by either Denzel or Travolta. Both are fine actors in their own rights - with a better script I think that movie would have soared.

I should have been more clear, his acting was fine like you said it was the script which handicapped the movie. Man on Fire is a great flick but I really liked him in Training Day to see him play a dirty cop, that was one hell of a performance.

And the scary thing is, he truly believes that he is a GREAT director!!!

And seeing how Transformers 1 & 2 combined to make $1.54 billion world wide only reinforces his thinking!

Add in Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and The Rock and it's $2.88 billion!

My friend it just goes to show, if there's a market for CRAP, there will invariably be someone out there more than ready to hawk it. ;)

Well I have done some research and it looks like he won't be directing Nightmare on Elm St :),but he is the Producer of it. He will be directing Transformers 3, not sure for Bad Boys 3 which comes out in 2011. Samuel Bayer will be directing Nightmare on Elm St. this will be his first major picture, he is best know for directing music videos, Well at least Michael Bay isn't directing:D, but I hope this guy doesn't screw up this movie.
