More expensive doesn't always equal better sound.

I have 3 older AV receivers, a 2002 Sony STR-DA7es that retailed for $2500 when new, A 2004 Pioneer Elite VSX-55txi that retailed for $1800 new, and a 2004 Yamaha RX-V2500 that retailed for $1100 new. And of those 3, The Yamaha RX-V2500, the least expensive of the 3 sounds the best.
 
When it comes to AVR, it usually comes down to Yamaha vs Denon/Marantz anyway.

I have an older Onkyo TX-SR706 that was an amazing receiver for the price. I tried a few times to replace it and could find anything that sounded as good until I picked up a Denon X3600H which has been a pretty awesome little receiver.

Sounds better how? How were they configured etc?

Well doubt many here are hooked into the more expensive audio equals better sound thing as it often doesn't. Comparing "sound" of avrs I'd also like to know a lot more about how you did that....

What is suspect, I have been into Audio for 50 years, and much older than that now, I know how to set up an AV receiver. All 3 AVR's were connected to the same speakers and source material in the same room. All I am saying is the least expensive AVR of the 3 sounds the best in my system, nothing else. Not everything has to be super complicated, it's not rocket science, just stating my opinion of the 3, that's it.

Yes it does- I read it on the internet, so it must be true. :)

I read a saying that has been attributed to many sources- "Talking about food is like dancing about architecture" but 'food' could be replaced by 'sound'.
