Mordaunt Short ms 402 vs. Polk RT 35i

I'm looking for surround speakers and wanted to know if anyone has a preference between these 2 speakers. I found them on Ebay and might get a bargain for a good speaker.

I personally like MS speakers, but everyone has different taste. Polk and MS both make fine speakers.

But for surrounds when you are just getting the ambient sound effects during movies does this "brightness" play a major role in weighing in the cost factor?

Personally, I don't think the RT35i is a bright speaker. Compared to the BA and Klipsch in the same price range, they were much easier on the ears. But MS has always made good speakers too, so you will just have to decide which sound you prefer. You might want to listen to some others too. Although, I suppose for surrounds this decision isn't as critical.

The older Polks do lean towards brighter. The MS speakers that use all aluminum drivers are also more bright than neutral in the midrange, though the tweeter isn't over done. Between the two, the MS's have typically had more detail than any of Polk's lower lines. I owned MS 902s for years and was very happy with them.

Most definitely it can and will.
