Have to opportunity to purchase mint condition Moon 340i with all the upgrades, box, remote and accessories for $2,000. Also deciding if I dump my TV altogether and just go to audio setup.

anyone have any thoughts? Yes I know this kind of stuff is overpriced and overhyped at retail but for $2,000????

Even at $2000 I don't see a particular value in that integrated amp, "hype" seems about right for anything Moon. Going to audio only would be something you'd have to decide for yourself, but the Moon won't be much help with video....

While I've never heard that particular piece I have other Moon gear, almost bought their CD player years ago(got the Cary 303 instead). I assume when you said all the upgrades it is now the 'X' version ? Regardless, 2k seems like a good price if it is truly 'mint'

What speakers will you be driving ?

Dynaudio Contour 20’s and SVS SB 3000’s. Probably get a 2x4 for the subs

I’d be going away from video completely. Since starting my medical company, I watch less than one TV show per week, and it generally takes me several days to get through. And I just don’t for see having much time to watch television, or movies in my future but I can always have music going. Lately, I’ve needed music much more for my sanity.

I will say I am a fan of a nice integrated amp. I recently purchased a classe 2200i and sent in it to be cleaned etc. I am super happy with it and I think if you find high end gear at a good price and it fits your needs, why not. Moon is another Canadian company that in general has shown to have high quality products when tested by stereophile etc.

Every time I see a Simaudio Moon product, I think about how they took a $1200 Denon AVR-2808 AVR, gutted the internal amps, put it into a nice chassis, and sold it as an $18K AVP. :D

At least the owners of the CP-8 can feel the pride of ownership of a Denon receiver without power amplifiers they only paid 18k for.

When you get into the realm of more 'exotic' gear like Simaudio, it depends greatly on how much extra you are willing to spend for the aesthetics and company name. Retail is pretty high on these but at $2,000 it's a lot more palatable. At least with SImaudio you are getting a well manufactured quality product.

That is hilariously shady.

Just like the Lexicon/Oppo incident.
