Out of one frying pan and into... another frying pan. :p
Well... Not so much so. This article simply shows that Monster Cables are in fact marked up way beyond "normal" markups. It does not go in to the whole cable vs. cable argument, but it does link to one...

But I have to admit the timing of this was quite fortuitous.

Yeah I know - I was just being facetious; it was the timing of it that made me chuckle, right in the aftermath of the other thread getting locked. ;)

Monster sure does have the average consumer fooled, don't they? :)

All these high-end companies are into jewelry, if they would be upfront and say that, they'll go bankrupt. Listen a guy wants to go out and spend $300 on AC power cables, more power too him, just be aware you're paying for a pretty cable with pretty colors and pretty connectors. Cables, the jewelry of the future. Hell I'm going to start using cables as a fashion statement.

Um, maybe this isn't clear: the retailers are the ones doing the marking up, not Monster... Which simply means they know they can charge more for the name, but it is still not handed down to them by Monster to charge what they charge, so the real issue should be with them.

The markup on "cheap" cables at retailers is usually a much higher % than the MC markups. Of course carrying those high-priced cables in the first place makes a $40 HDMI cable look like a real bargain even though the wholesale cost might be $8.

Well, whoever is responsible for the markup doesn't matter as much as the uninformed or mis-informed consumer who willingly takes it up the pooper as he shells out the dough for this fancy looking stuff, all because he either a.) honestly doesn't know any better, or b.) believes he knows better and goes on internet forums and smashes cream pies in everyone's face who tend to think a little more logically on the matter.

Monster: An award-winning combination of looks, average functionality, extreme prices, and aggressive marketing - any other companies like this come to mind?? ;)

How come when you go to the Monster site they list the price of their items? I use to go there to figure out what was what in order to buy the stuff on eBay.

80%??? wow... that doesn't surprise me.
I should make some cables that will be blingy AND massive... and call them

MEGA-LEVIATHAN INTERCONNECTS

With shielding the size of a garden hose, NOTHING will get between your audio or video's maximum performance and the bling will be TWICE AS BIGGORS!!!!

You don't believe my claims? Look at the results of our sub-ion cryrogenic multi-gramnification reverse osmosis laboratory test:

As you can see from 0.8 to 1.4 volts (nominal operating range for EVERY ELECTRONIC DEVICE in the WORLD), the level is dramatically increased in clarity and power. Notice that the other voltages are eliminated from the cables ionisphere. This is the MEGA-LEVIATHAN advantage.

Try my Oreck XL MEGA-LEVIATHAN for 60 days :rolleyes::rolleyes::p
