We seem vulnerable to spammers and crooks. We have a mass invasion from Pakistan today. Some "Hadi Badi" or some such. Looks like we are going to have to step up security.

We obviously have to protect our PCs and smart phones from phishing attempts and spammers.

We need to use a reliable anti-malware, antivirus software on both. An ad blocker is also a must.

Over the years, I've used several antivirus/malware softwares. For the last 20 years, I've been using Malwarebytes Premium which protects constantly on line, and my equipment has never been invaded by any malware or virus. Malwarebytes is an American firm based in California and I would never use another software to get protected.

Several years ago, just before a race, NASCAR had their computer invaded by some sort of cyber attack. Malwarebytes went and solved the problem so they could go ahead with the race.

We have been getting blasted with spam bots over the last 18 hours or so. I have been very busy deleting this stuff and banning these bots. This hosting platform need to develop better filters.

Seriously, I have no life.
I did as well, in the Beginners site yesterday and General as well. Then again, this morning in General.

If I were you, I would have a trial with Malwarebytes Premium. See my post #2 above for accessing their info.

As a matter of fact, I was on this site yesterday for a long period and didn't get anything, nothing today either. Over the last 30 days, Malwarebytes Premium detected and blocked 10 attempts. I've just scanned this laptop and there was no detection.

In that case we need authentication for now members before they can post.

If you want Shady, I can talk to my son. He is chief of Internet security for Lumi. He is in the UK at the moment, returning soon. He lives in the Twin Cities but works for an outfit based in Liphook, Hampshire UK. He is also their chief code writer. He was over there these past weeks as he had to handle a sensitive meeting with international political ramifications. So no unauthorized access! Lumi handles internet security and tech for high profile meetings. Annual general shareholder meetings are a big part of their business.

Maybe I screwed up my reply. I didn't get anything on my computer, I just reported all the spam I saw posted on both Beginners and General segments, a whole bunch.
All gone now, for now.

I will mention that to Gene. Even then, I am not sure how able we would be to dig into the code of the forum. I would imagine that the forum code gets updated by the forum software. But these bots always find a way around new defenses. And then it gets patched, and so on.

Hi James,
You could opt for the CAPTCHA logging question asking that everyone logging in to this site click that he/she is not a robot. That should avoid a lot of problems.

Maybe adding a picture to identify an object in squares?

Since Win 11 came out and keeping up with auto updates along Win Defender[Windows Security], my Spam mail folder has been minimal. Every so often, I will get a spam email in my regular incoming mailbox. Same applies to my wife's laptop. I do run Malwarebytes FREE version, every so often to check the hard drive. Nothing has been found. Microsoft's Security Protection, does what they say it will do, Before having WIN 11, I did add and install, Webroot for years. Windows Security does not slow down our Laptops either. Once in great while my spam folder might have 10 spam emails, the next morning, but rarely. YAHOO mail, identifies spam, and puts into the spam folder.

Another thing, when I close my Web Browser, it deletes Cookies, History, and Cashe,
