Taken from MLS

Essentially, I wanted to take my personal favourite in the initial x-series line - the lovely and remarkable x-sls - and offer a few of you a unique opportunity to “review” this product as juxtaposed to a few of the industry’s “best choices” in and around our price point (up to say DOUBLE our price)…

In the case of the x-sls – I was thinking of comparing this product to the really sensational Dynaudio Audience 62… This is a very good speaker (exceptional in fact) and a good point of reference for our x-sls.

Specs look quite similar in many respects…

I think the other obvious choice might be this really nice model from Monitor Audio – The Silver RS5…

http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/product.php?range=2&product=64

Monitor Audio makes a very fine product – and the Silver RS5 has already earned a fine reputation amongst discerning audiophiles everywhere. Their specs look a lot like the x-sls as well…

In a shootout, who would win?

i wish MLS would select people "other" than the AV123 members.

I agree, too biased.
no offense to the members of AV123 (though i'm a member as well)

but if fans are asked which speakers sound better ... i think we already know which one will sound best in their minds.

if MLS had to use AV123 members, it would be cool if they did blind/double blind tests instead. (perhaps setting this up at Major's GTG) [hint hint]

I agree again, as a proud owner of AV123 products I even realise they have a cult following, that is why they need a 3rd party involved. Perhaps audioholics could do this :).

good idea. audioholics has done speaker shootouts before.

i would suggest that they submit all 3 pairs to AH for review/shootout.

now somebody PM MLS. :)

This is like asking a Ford salesman what are the best vehicles made today.....we already know what he is going to say. Mike, you really hit the nail right on the head so to speak on this one my friend. I agree, that major's GTG would be an excellent place to conduct some testing. Just wished I could be there myself.

Cheers,

Phil

I think I've got a little bit too much on my plate already. If I add any more gear I'll need to add more days.

I missed out on some Dynaaudio speakers that were going around at Sound & Vision. Now I'm very relieved that I did!

They may be available if somebody else wants to get them:

Because I have WAY too much stuff for one day's worth of auditions at my house for the Florida GTG.

I see.... I was going to say, I'm sure the Dyns are pretty good, I heard the S1.4's and I really thought they sounded great...

The guys at AVSForum did something similar to this with the rockets and a few other contenders and they did very well. Although I am sure the AV123 forums is probably going to have slightly skewed points of view, I am sure they are still good speakers. I don’t think they are going to say crap is golden and gold is crap. Either way I am interested. It would be nice to see Audioholics do their own version of this afterward and see if the results are the same or different.

Reviews like this remind me of the Special Olympics.

Since he is giving 3 people to do this review, I would not mind one set of speakers going to a professional reviewer and the other 2 sets going to the forum members. It would be interesting to compare the different reviews and I think it would make it easier to spot any bias. The only way this can hold any credibility for me is that there is some sort of independant intervention. You can call this somewhat of a control group. If not I would hold this to just another marketing strategy on AV123 part.
