Slow, boring, lots of scenes with no audio so the slow and boring is accompanied with silence. It makes it seem like your sitting in a room with nothing at all going on of any interest whatsoever. If they put a blank screen in front of you at least you would have a better chance of having your imagination take over. What's even worse is that it is 2 hours and 15 minutes of this crap. Worse than Winter's Bone by a light year.

You've been warned.

Oh yeah, depressing too. Not even Julia whatsername's rack could snap me out of it.

Yeah, the wife and I watched it last night and thought the very same thing. Horribly long, boring movie to the ninth degree. I had to take a Motrin after it was over.

If you liked Melancholia, and I assume that you didn't, you're sure to also like, or not like, Another Earth, which was released around the same time...another tale of another planet that seems to be on an intercept with our earth. Both were slow and quiet, although the outcome was different. Both featured poster images of young, blond women with uncertain expressions.

I actually like both somewhat, but wouldn't recommend them unless you like slow movies that have (from an astronomer's perspective at least) a preposterous setup. Think movie producers imitate each other?

I haven't seen Melancholia, but I liked Another Earth. Then again, we had just watched Abduction... so anything is fantastic after that horrid mess of a movie.

I watched Another Earth and while I liked the story I thought the film was pretty poor. I think it was written and directed by the female lead and she needs some practice writing, acting and directing. If you feel compelled to watch these movies don't watch them back to back. It would be a shame to completely lose someone to movie induced coma. Please view responsibly and preferably under the influence of strong drink.

I think I'd have to be sober to stay awake through both of them, but the watching both would probably be the thing that would make me decide that it's time to begin the wall painting project I've been postponing.
