That got your attention, but I'm not going to describe the details of my basest urges, thank goodness! Just want to tell y'all about a kick-a** two CD set I just got called "The Chicago Principal"

It's a compilation of Chicago Symphony recordings featuring their first-chair wind and brass players (some of the best in the world!) in concertos. The French horn is my favorite instrument and this has the good'uns: Benjamin Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings with the English tenor Robert Tear (the reason I bought it to begin with), the Mozart 3rd horn concerto and the real rouser, the Schumann Konzertstuck for Four Horns and Orchestra, with the whole Chicago horn section blazing away! It's horn heaven!

Other great stuff, too: Haydn's Trumpet Concerto, Vaughan William's Tuba Concerto (amazing!) and oboe and basson concertos by Mozart.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, get this set! It's on BMG/Deutche Grammophon, #B0000025-02

Sounds like some recordings worth getting. I am a huge Hadyn fan as well as classical brass (more baroque), and am always looking to expand my collection of music in that area. BTW you truly do have a way with words there Rip, as well as eclectic taste. :p

Hey, I like classical as much as the next guy, but I'll have to say I'm very disappointed with the title you chose to lure me into this thread. I'm going to request that the moderators monitor your titles very closely in the future and check them for accuracy. I feel so cheated. You are not to be trusted. The CD's sound pretty cool, I've always been a fan of the brass section myself. Think Borders will have it? I was going to make a trip there tomorrow anyway, so I guess I'll have to see. Thanks for the suggestion, even if it's not what I expected. You ever think about going into politics?
