It would be fitting if the GOP picked "Gym" Jordan. Or Jim "Stop the Steal" Jordan.;)

McCarthy's bill proposal meant an 8% decrease in spending. It would be no real surprise if Gaetz's actions were theatre. He went on about how his fellow Republicans take money from lobbyists. As if he doesn't. However, Gaetz seems quite knowledgeable in the details of the errr "fluff" bills. It seems to center on McCarthy's promises to everyone he can't possibly see through. A TN rep on Gaetz's side said he's tired of increasing the debt $2 trillion a year. I'd like to know what's lost with a shutdown. SS checks not being sent etc?

I find it disgusting that the GOP followed John Boehner with McCarthy. Somehow, they MUST have had someone better, but they didn't want to put them in that position.

I never really understood why they didn't like Boehner? My impression was he was fairly conservative.

As usual there is no particular plan except rage and dissatisfaction rather than any actual work....

Pretty bad timing with the new attack on Israel. Nothing is going to get done without a house speaker.

If I heard that right it does not look like Jim Jordan has enough votes for speaker. I hope anyway.

I guess it will be up to 'The Leader Of The Free World' to solve this, eh?

Are you referring to 'out here in the wild', or in Congress? I guess it really doesn't matter since people out here can't agree, nor can Congress. They need to receive the clear message that winning for their party doesn't matter as much as what they do for the country as members of Congress. They're clearly not working 'for us'.

Democrats better look out! It looks like common sense has broken out among the GOP in Congress. Well … almost broken out. Scalise (despite being treated* for multiple myeloma) won the GOP caucus vote, 113-99. He still has to get 217 votes to win as Speaker on a House floor vote.

"Gym Shorts" Jordan didn't have enough votes – apparently Matt Gaetz's antics took all the wind out his sails.

* Treatments for multiple myeloma have improved greatly over the past 20 years. Patients can live much longer than they previously could. However, these treatments cannot cure them. I don't know any disease or treatment details for Scalise, only that he is 58 years old, and his disease was apparently detected early. As all Senators & Congressmen do, he has excellent health care and medical insurance.

Speaking personally, I hope Steve Scalise's treatments work very well, that he lives a long time, and that he becomes an avid Congressional supporter of cancer research. The research that the National Cancer Institute sponsored 30-years ago, led to the treatments he is now receiving. That's money well spent.

A new Republican Speaker of the House will not have any easier job than McCarthy unless the current rules for vacating the chair is changed. That will not happen unless there is support from the Democrats as I understand such a change requires a majority vote.

Whether or not Scalise have enough votes is still quite uncertain. Already some Republicans have made demands for supporting him.

I was referring to the congress. Too much agenda, too little accomplishment. I'm good with simple compromises rather than just standing on some agenda of the parties themselves...

Possibly the most LOL interview I've seen in a long while. I liked the part about Tapper saying, I can't believe MTG would be upset about this? Referring to Scalise attending a Europe Unity conference with David Duke in attendance back in 2002 or so.:p Mace said later that she's talked to Democrats who trust Jim Jordan more than they would trust McCarthy. I think Tapper probably has a sore face from squinting so much at her lies.:)

In the end it doesn't look like Scalise has enough votes. I still rather give Jordan the edge. He's the hard-nosed guy they're looking for. Sadly it means he has all kins of baggage. Plus he'll be on camera more.

Absolutely! I refer to people who fixate on something other than what's most important as "like a June bug trying to get out of a corner".
