Marantz SR7001 Issues

We were watching DirecTv last night when all of a sudden a loud screeching noise came through my HT system. It was high pitched and sounded almost like feedback.

I tried a little troubleshooting. I unplugged the HDMI cable going to the DirecTv box and the sound went away. I plugged it in and it came back. I thought maybe it was a bad HDMI cable. I replaced the cable, same noise. I tried the PS3 with a movie in it and got the same noise. I got the same noise with the AppleTv.

I then put the Marantz on FM stereo and I am not getting any volume from the Radio station. The display on the front shows that it is tuned and broadcasting in Stereo. I still can't get any sound.

I haven't had any issue until now and I haven't changed anything prior to this episode. Does this sound like a trip to the repair shop or will a reset solve anything?

I'm a noob, but I did search for this problem and didn't find anything like it. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Yes, try a reset (it should be indicated in your manual, near the end).

And for another tip; turn your receiver OFF, and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back on.
