Marantz av20 Audyssey x setup tuning problems

I think the op has already decided to use the drivers from a refurb pair of DefTechs. If he has built competition cabinets before then he could have the skills to build the cabinets. I imagine the easiest method would be to match the DefTech cabinet volume and porting and use their cross-overs.
Knowing DefTech, there is a good chance they got it wrong! I say that, as when I have heard DefTech they sound mistuned to me.

Hey, @shadyJ , did those DefTech's that you reviewed (FR was very accurate like +/- 1.5dB) sound like they were "mistuned"? :D

I mean did an A-note sound like an A-sharp or A-flat or something? :D

Been busy with projects and put my room on hold. So plan is i ordered 1 refurbished d17 right for 258 with 1 yesr warranty. Found the left new old stock from a dealer for $400 shipped. Found the dm30 center for $900 adorama.com comes with 2 year warranty. So first plan going to listening to them in the room before take them apart. Than im going to put the towers 24 inches higher as if they were on top of subs. Make a plan after that. I have been looking over the specs on these and design models of the boxes for bracing.i would calculate air space when tower get here. I would try to stay close or as close to rhe factory air space here maybe I would aim for mild over so im not under to be to small. No ports in these models so that takes some of the headache out. Probably around friday I will have an update to post.

That's an approach that is pretty rare here. Would be nice if you post some pictures of the build if it turns out ok. Planning to take measurements before and after or just go by what sounds best?

I will take a rew of the room now and of the d17 in the same spots and with them 24 inches off the ground with them pointed at the main seat.

I Just set this new av20 up. I ordered new amps for the surround channels Starke sound. Rear sub amps made by speaker power 4000 watt and 1200 watt.
I have 4 problems that have changed since i changed to the av20 from the integra drx 8.4.

1 I now have a 25-30 db high pitch noise from the speakers. I did not have this with the integra. I think it's a ground noise, but I have already installed a ground wire from the av20 to the anthem amp that powers the front speakers. I do not have it linked to the Starke sound 8 channel amp.

2 Turn on pop from all speakers when the av20 turns on. I also did not have that with the integra avr.

3 Using audessey x pc software. After i get done with the tune and send the update to the av20 when i go back into the tune it has turned on dynamic volume and i had it turned off. This is a theater room not a living room.

4 After audessey scanned the room with 8 positions. I knew that audessey turns bass down so i switched sub auto leveling off. Still lacked bass big time. Room has 5 15's room size 14x16 with the integra i had dirac live set with tons of pressure for impact and now i had like zero so i opened up audessey again. under the subs i added a shelf right at 20 hz bumped it 5db with a pretty wide group hitting 70 hurts still gets a 1 db bump. yes i got some bass back but i wonder if i did it correct. Should i have made the shelf narrow around 20hz and turned up the gains like 3 db?

5 Under target curve it lets u click flat and ref at the same time. why would u want to click both at once? Im using ref on all the speakers. The whole front is set large down to 20hz coming out of the center and towers. In a setup like this, similar to how CNC Machining Services rely on precise calibration and consistency, using both flat and reference at once can seem redundant and may affect how accurately the system interprets your tuning choices.

6 When i go to heos it sets it to the front towers with zero sub in stereo. How do i get the av20 to do stereo with subs??

Thank u guys for any help on these problems. I'm sure over the next couple days with everyone's help I will get all of these fixed. The av20 with all of these problems right now still sounds better than the integra. The detail is next level, My towers have come alive.
My receiver is Marantz SR6013. I had purchased the Audyssey app a long time ago, but had run an Audyssey set up using the app only a few days back.

After the Audyssey set up through the app, to my complete, but pleasant astonishment, Audyssey has transformed my entire HT rig. Now, the scale, the attack, the intensity of movies are far superior than earlier when I had set up Audyssey without the app. See the before and after FR curves below. In the before curve, there are dips in the very uneven frequency response, which I presume was the main reason for an underwhelming HT performance earlier. The after FR curve with the app is almost table top flat.

Does this mean that the Audyssey app is far superior than the stock one on the AV receiver? This means an additional expense to optimise your HT rig. Would like hear if you have had a similar experience with the Audyssey app.

My speakers are MA Silver, with Klipsch 15 inch sub.

Would like to see the graphs, preferably REW graphs instead of the Audyssey generated ones. Thank you!

I feel audyssey has done better tunes than dirac live ever did. I would need to pay close to $850 to use dirac to compare the difference head to head. But I feel the system sounds better. I have also front stage from klipsch to def tech demand line. Also built 2 15 inch ported boxes and added the av20 since I used dirac. Now I have subs in every corner. What im dealing with now is the bass is heavy sounding in front left. Corner loading. I can't move the sub and I have it set to 6db less than the others. No fix yet more manual tuning needed.
