Marantz AV 10 to Sony Bravia HDMI eArc Disonnect

When I first connected my Marantz AV 10 to my Sony Bravia, hitting all the right 'buttons', eArc worked flawlessly. From the Bravia remote, I could control volume. When I turned on the Bravia, so did the Marantz, and vice versa.

Now, for no reason apparent to me, this integration no longer functions. I've Googled of course, and gone through the suggested routines. No luck so far.

Can anyone help me? Or is this a Sony or Marantz problem?

Those CEC connections are fraught with trouble. One thing that occurs to me is that it might be an HDMI cable problem. What is your HDMI cable length form AV 10 to Bravia TV? Anything over 12' can be a problem with these high res systems unless the cable is an active one. An AV 10 has enough power to power those cables without a voltage inserter.

By the way, how to you like your AV 10? I picked mine up yesterday and have a 19" rack mount. I started reconfiguring my first AV rack yesterday, getting ready for install Saturday when my son is coming over. The AV 10 plus rack case weighs around 50 lb. So I have arranged extra support for the unit. I don't feel comfortable hanging that weight from the two front ears. I will make a nice job of it, and hope I get better service than I got from my AV 7705 and 7706. I have high hopes for my AV10.

If you think your cable is OK, then I would go through the set up procedure from scratch with both units.

Personally I don't like those CEC type connections and always disable them and just switch on the units I want. I find that a lot less trouble as I don't always want the TV on when using the pre/pro. In any event I have to switch my amps on manually otherwise the surge current causes huge problems, so I sequence them manually from my DIY amp controller. One on/off button per unit is my golden rule.

Thanks for the input. But yeah, I changed cables, at a cost! And yes, it's not a big deal, two remotes replace one.

Disabling CEC solves some problems but can affect some features. My Samsung S95B requires CEC to be enabled for eARC to function but that's only an issue if you have any sources connected to the TV instead of the AVR or you want to use the TV's streaming services. Another issue I found was that if the power blinks off and on, the cable box triggers the TV to turn on. I found the TV on after some inclement weather and thought: what happens if the power flickers while we are away? I have CEC disabled on the TV since then..

On Bravia TVs CEC is called Bravia Link on some and Bravia Synch on others. Manufacturers all seem to have their own names for CEC which is ridiculous. It is those damn marketer and MBA types at it again.

I won't be using Dirac or Audyssey. I will set my AV 10 to the same settings I have now, which are perfect. I want it to sound exactly the same as it does not.

Since I have really ever owned Sony TVs, I can speak for other brands, I had no problem with CEC and Marantz in the past. It works flawlessly with my Anthem now. Not sure the issue, what model Sony TV/Projector do you have?
