Well, thanks for the attitude adjustment. I had just heard that there wasn't much of a difference between HD and standard audio. However, I looks like the ATP8700 that you suggest doesn't have HD audio either. Am I missing something?

To be 100% honest:D, I can't tell the difference between TrueHD vs DD & DTS-HD MA vs DTS.:D

But I still want DTS-HD MA & Dolby TrueHD just the same.:D

I must have the latest.:)

If they come out with 4K video, I would say bye-bye to 1080p!

I was just saying that if I did not care, I would get the ATI ATP8700 since it does NOT have TrueHD or DTS-HD either.

However, it does have the 7.1 analog inputs. So if your BD player (like Oppo) has internal HD-audio decoding, then just output that to the 7.1 analog input.

The ATP8700 has 2 DVI inputs, 1 DVI output. I guess you could get the DVI-HDMI cable, but it would be just for the VIDEO switching only.

If I were not into HTPCs at all, I might have been more interested in the ATP8700.:D

I just liked the fact that the Sherwood is included with the amp. This would have solved my defunct HK issue and started me down the path of separates...all at a rather comfortable price. I would so much prefer to have the HD audio options as well. Any suggestion as to what HD pro I should be looking at to compliment either the Outlaw or the ATI?

The new upcoming Marantz AV7005 processor looks pretty hot. That's what I would get.

Ahhh...that is what the salesman that I bought some equipment through is trying to sell me as well. I have to admit...it looks nice. I was trying to stay American though....well, at least not Japanese and especially not Chinese if I can help it. We have got to stop buying Chinese before they do to us what we did to the UK.

With B&K dead, and the other American made pre-pros being McIntosh & Cary Audio, which are both expensive. The Cary Audio is $4K for a pre-pro that has only 2 HDMI pass-through Inputs, 1 HDMI output, & with HD-Audio, and absolutely no video processing unless you put out another $4K for the video part.

That is why I mentioned the ATI pre-pro. It's American, but it lacks the HD-Audio decoders. You have to let your player do the HD-Audio decoding and sedt the HD-Audio to the ATI pre-pro.

We basically don't have a lot of options for American-made pre-pros w/ HD-Audio.

What a crying shame. I'm embarrassed for us all! How can we fail to be able to compete with products that are made thousands of miles across a fricking ocean?

At least i can still get an amp.

I hear you.

I have 3 American amps - all ATI.:D

If I end up buying the Linkwitz Orion speakers, they are also 100% made in the USA (California).

Most speakers are not made in the USA. Like DefTech is "designed" in the USA, but all their speakers are assembled in China.

My old Paradigms were built in Canada, and my Outlaw speakers were built in the US. There are still a fair number of domestically-made speakers (certainly more built that way than on the electronics side), although they are a minority these days.

Obviously more and more products are made in China to reduce production cost.

So Outlaw still has speakers & amps (made by ATI) made in the USA.

I'm glad Outlaw and some others are still making speakers in the USA.

But I wonder how a pair of $1,000 Outlaw USA-made bookshelf speakers compare to a $400 pr of China-made Infinity P362 tower speakers?

What do you gentlemen think about CineNova products vs. ATI?

The only problem with Cinepro's pre-pro is that is it exactly like ATI's 7700 pre-pro, which also means no HD-audio decoding.

I think the "end result" of both ATI & Cinepro amps may be the same. However, the ATI/Earthquake has better measured specs in terms of THD, Crosstalk, & SNR.

Cinepro 425WPC amp:
http://hometheatermag.com/poweramplifiers/91/index2.html

415wpc x 2ch 8ohms
694wpc x 2ch 4ohms
THD: 0.13% 1watt/1kHz
SNR: 99dBA 1watt
Crosstalk: -60dB 1kHz

ATI/Earthquake 300WPC amp:
http://hometheatermag.com/poweramplifiers/12/index1.html

374wpc x 2ch 8ohms
565wpc x 2ch 4ohms
THD: 0.013% 1watt/1kHz
SNR: 105dBA 1watt
Crosstalk: -99dB 1kHz

I don't mean to rub salt in the wound, but you had a better chance of buying some great American-made speakers. Then, Chinese-made electronics might've been an easier pill to swallow. At least you would've been supporting some American manufacturing jobs.

I fully empathize with your dilemma. We have the same situation in Canada, regarding the out-sourcing of manufacturing to low-cost countries, i.e. China. However, as a society, we want our cake and eat it too. As in, keep well-paid manufacturing jobs here, but give us inexpensive products as well. Those two concepts just aren't compatible.:(
