Gotta a problem with turntables and records?
Heck, no. I love groove echo and audible jitter

But I still can't get away from 33 and 45 rpm, or mass in grams, or RIAA eq...and all those damn numbers, numbers...I'm still listening to numbers...oh no
.

So where was that dealership?

I didn't think so

So I'm guessing you use a TT and tape deck, no digital media players...or any music or movies recorded past the 80's???

digital media is not numbers anymore long before it hits your ears

Even Lindsey Lohan finds a flaw in your argument

Glad I made your memory come back a bit. :)
See, sometimes my (different from Sean) methods are effective, despite all the
it causes ;).
Btw, do you remember where this dealership was? I got friends up there who may be interested in doing a similar comparison.
TIA.
You're faaaaaarrrr too modest.......

The Canadians form a tag team! Will AJinFLA be able to find a partner in the member rich Florida area or will he continue to go it alone hurling snide remark after insult until the Canuks get bored? Tune in in about 30 seconds because that's about as long as it's gonna take for a retort (I forgot the fancy word GO-NAD! uses). :p :D
Amost missed that. The word was "repartee"....

I'm a Spec-whore when it comes to electronics and speakers, but the sound quality has to be great too in the end.

If the specs were perfect, but the sound quality was bad, then I would not buy it either.:D

But when was the last time a component had perfect specs and sounded bad?

Now if a component had bad specs and sounded great, then I may still get it - unless it costs $23,000.
I'm actually surprised that you haven't incurred the contempt of AJ and received a snide response for making such ludicrous statements!

J/K :D

I'm with you on specs - I don't argue with them, as long as the measurements are properly taken.

Since you are one of the few who actually seems interested in learning something/educating yourself, check this Gradient paper "Basis of Stereo", scroll down to the "Absolute listening test" and note the part about "delayed resonances" impact sitting at 3m in the reverberant field. Note what is of overriding importance (ps., it's not FR, like an preamp, is FR's...as in 3 dimensions).

Feet breaking off during dragging and grills falling off??
That's Reducto Absurdum (contagious around here
)...not QC issues .

cheers,

AJ
So basically, the take-home message here is that as long as the on- and off-axis response is flat, the cabinet resonance and other factors don't mean much when it comes to overall sound quality?:D

That is because AJ knows that it is impossible for a speaker to measure perfectly on- and off-axis and sound bad and vice-versa.:D

My BP7000SC sounds so CRYSTAL clear no matter where I SIT, STAND, or LIE DOWN in the room!

Heck, my BP7000SC sounds so CRYSTAL clear when I'm standing OUTSIDE the room listening!

Therefore, I deduct that my BP7000SC must measure perfectly on- and off-axis.:p:D

And if they didn't measure perfectly, the measurement must be WRONG.:D:D

I'm going to be spending some time this weekend listening to my new Infinity P362 in the family room.:D

If I recall, there was big battle royal between wmax and AJ about this very thing and to me its unclear who is right and who is wrong. The B&Ws were the speakers that centered around that arguement. If I were to place bets, it would be on wmax for being correct. as he builds and sells custom made loudspeakers. I don't know what AJ's background is except for being grating and disrespectful. The other person in this realm that I would hedge bets on is TLS.

Now before you go off spouting all kinds of specs, take a step back and look around you. Here are three very knowdlegebale people who understand loudspeakers, the theorey behind the designs from an acoustics theorey ( i only learned it as 2nd order differential equations (theoretical and not practical applications) and all three here have a different interpretation of the science. Doesn't that strike you as kind of odd? What does that tell you? It tells me that speaker design is nothing but a huge compromise of principles and theoreys that conflict with one another. Choosing the best compromise is unfortunately not a universal realm but a personal one, hence these discussions.

Not quite. It means the dominant factor in SQ is the polar response, not that cabinet resonances don't matter....they can, but rarely, if ever are, in the far field of a reverberant room. Other factors do matter, just not as much.

That is because AJ knows that it is impossible for a speaker to measure perfectly on- and off-axis and sound bad and vice-versa.:D
With caveats. For example, a tiny speaker can meet this criteria, but compress and distort quickly, so you have to be careful to acknowledge additional factors.

And if they didn't measure perfectly, the measurement must be WRONG.:D:D
Not wrong, incomplete. Each measurement is a snapshot. There is an entire photo album.

Take time to slightly reposition and adjust them, they may improve further. Plus your perceptions will adjust over time....excuse me, I mean the 362's will "break in", inexplicably, always for the better :).

cheers,

AJ
