I have a Denon AVR-790 that when I turn it on it blinks a few times and then cut right back off I have tried the resetting the microprocessor and still the same. I have fixed things before is there a quick fix or a long stay in the repair shop

Usually, the first thing to check for is possible speaker strands "shorting across terminals". Many times simple problems like that cause such headaches. If that doesn't do it, then that receiver could very well have a difficult internal problem.

The unit is powering down. This is either because the power supply has failed, or more likely a component has failed elsewhere and is drawing too much current and sending the power supply into to protection.

Unless you are a service tech with a lot of test equipment you will not fix it yourself.

How old is it, and is it still in warranty?

The cost of repair if out of warranty will likely be half the purchase price and possibly close to the purchase price, so replacement may be a better option.
