Looking for a Sub.

Ok its getting t ime to replace my blown sub and would like everyones opnion. Currently I have a Integra DTR-5.4 with Canton LE 170 fronts Infinity Beta 250 and Infinity Primus 150 surounds. Its in a large room (an unfinished basement ) I was looking at a B&W ASW 650 and thats basiclt the only one Ive listend to that impressed me. I dont like to get audio equipment espically speaker without listening to them in a store and having listen to probably 8 subs blind (Just switching them without looking wich was wich) The B&W was the only one that stood out. Im not really against any brands so with that in mind let me know if I have a good choice or if im an idiot.

Some highly regarded, and much talked about brands right off the top of my head are; SVS, Hsu, Outlaw, Onix/Rocket, & Velodyne. Like I said that's just off the top of my head, but there are many others.

B&W ASW675

I was also impressed with the quality of the B&W, however I went with the model just above the 650. The enclosure is smaller but the response and tight bass was much improved. So for the money I went with it. But if I had a little more money I would have purchased the velodyn.

Yeah Im sorry I wasnt more specififc. Im mostly about movies but I ocasionally listen to music with it. The room is a bit more complicated currently its a rather large open basement but sooner or later Im gonna move but who knows where so I figure get a sub that can fill a large room cause you can always turn it down and also eventauly Ill get a house and build a dedicated theater wich will more than likely be large. As far a budget Im not to concernd with it Id rather have to save to get something that is a real good sub (or whatever) that is good quality and will do what I want it to do and then some for a long time. Thats about it I guess Thanks for all the input and keep it coming.

Ok guys just a lil update. After hearing some of youre advice and looking at some reviews on this site I think Ive decided on SVS. The more I look at them the better they seem plus Ive noticed that a lot of people have them and recomend them (Superman) wich tells me that they must be something to look at. Now my problem is deciding Id say its between the PB12-Plus and the PB12-Ultra. As much as Id love to get one of the dual sub ones from what Ive seen on this site and thier site I think even the Single sub ones are gonna be insane wich is what I want . Well as always any input from the masses is apreciated.

Yeah I keep hearing about thier coustomer service and it sounds real good wich is VERY important I think in such a competive market. So I asume that you went with the PB12-Plus/2? That thing seems like a MONSTER The only real difference I can see quickly that I like on the PB-12 Ultra is that it goes so low (12Hz) not that you need it that low but its nice to be able to do it. But to be honest It dosent seem like Ill be disapointed with ANY SVS sub they all seem amazing on paper and are coming more and more recomended and have nothing but good reviews. Ill have to think about it a lil more but the PB12-Plus/2 sounds good but Id like to hear youre opioninon and anyones for that matter about how low the sub can go if it makes that big of a difference. Thanks for the advice and as soon as I figure it out and get one Ill be sure to let you know what I think.

I have not tested what my in room response is but I have been told at the native 20hz setting you should see around 18 hz anechoic and around 14 to 15hz in actual room environment. However at 16 hz native tune it should be lower but you sacrifice SPL for the lower frequency response.

By the way I did choose the PB-12 plus/2 And I love it.

I have the SVS PB-12 ISD, which is a single driver, for a room with the following dimensions:

Length = 35'
Width = for the first 11' in length = 15' plus 20' open area, rest is 15'
Height = 8'

Walls are in pine wood boards
Floor is carpeted for first 20' in length
Suspended ceiling.

At SVS, Erik recommended the above sub model and I couldn't be prouder of its performance.

The extremely low frequencies that I get are heard in music playback. The LFE part is extraordinary and was most impressed when I played movie "Flight of the Phoenix".

Unless your room is sensibly bigger than mine, an additional driver could be an overkill. My sub's Gain is set at less than half and the bass fills the room and the only sense of direction of the low frequencies would be from the Front speakers most of the time. At the start of the above movie the low flying plane appears in the screen coming right at you at low altitude and the extreme rumble "appears" to go from the front speakers to the rear speakers.

Well you are a very difficult person to please, is all I can say...but then I don't know what kind of sub you have.
