The very best center speaker I've ever owned was a KEF Reference Model 100 that I got for just over $100, shipped. It blended perfectly in the 5.1 "frankensystem" I had, consisting of that center, a pair of Hafler 300 floorstanding speakers, and a pair of KEF iQ10 bookshelf speakers as surrounds.

Those Reference Model 100's can still be found on eBay for about the same money, and they are really VERY good.

I didn't see any of those on ebay. That usually means people who have them want to KEEP them.

Seems they've sold several in last few months, tho....
They do come up often. The 1" soft dome tweeter in the center of the 6" or 6-1/2" mid-woofer is such a smooth yet crystal clear sound that I kind of wish I'd kept mine. I dismantled the so-rarely-used 5.1. system in our guest bedroom and use the room now for just the 2-channel stereo listening with my new KEF Reference 1 speakers.
