Lady Gaga - Born This Way

Well this is one topic that Gene and I agree on completely :)

Don't even get me started on this talent-less garbage. I worked with a tech who though IT and Brittney Spears were just the most amazing talented people. Had no idea what any kind of good music was. She walked in when I had Joe Satriani playing and started complaining and whining about how could I listen to that? That's not music it does not have any words!

Those were her exact words. I would have slapped her if she were not so darned cute :)

I get that all the time when it comes to a lot of the music I listen to...but I just accept that people have different tastes in music. If you're in my house, car, or office, I don't want to hear you complain about my taste in music, and I'll give you the same courtesy :)

She's this upcoming generations music. The product of technology shifting music. Previous generations normally hate the upcoming music. I think her songs are fun and catchy. Music is all about personal taste. I doubt a room full of old men are going to get into what the teen girls are listening too. :p

Seriously she's not that bad. Some folks need to lighten up. :D

There's alot of truth in what you say. I'm an older guy and generally do not like the new stuff thats out today. There are always exceptions and those are a nice surprise to me.

However, having listened to her 1st album twice, I would say that with the exception of the 3 or 4 hit songs which she has out, the rest is filler material. Because the rest is just filler, I would not recommend her to a music enthusiast. Its also blantanly obvious that shes ripping off Madonna.

I don't know what would be considered "older", but I'd say I am no spring chicken and I do like quite a bit of new music. There's absolutely no denying there is a LOT of crap out there though. While a lot of what tends to be popular; aka pop, these days is more fad than anything of significance. That's not new, but it does seem more prevalent lately. Catchy is fine, but that kind of stuff can just as easily be a jingle on a commercial.

A Madonna clone isn't even it; I'd actually say she is manufactured. She's the missing member of the Spice Girls or Backstreet Boys. They know they can put anyone up there with some catch crap, have some odd antics to achieve media coverage and you can make some money. That's the goal of a machine like this, not to make good music IMHO.

Seriously she is THAT BAD! and part of the problem with the music industry today among other things. I am not being some old fart either. I like new stuff when it is good new stuff. He/she aint it!

She actually sounds like a drunk dude (or she-dude) doing bad Madonna karaoke to me...

Some of her stuff is catchy for sure, but so are a lot of things that I would rather not catch...

She's not the source of the problem, she adds/multiplies to the problem much to the benefit of her and those in league with her. She and others like her exploit an existing problem for profit with out care or knowledge of the impact it has on the general public (ignorance is bliss, especially when that bliss comes with millions of greenbacks).

Knowing what I know of you, I'm willing to bet you probably have a similar perspective.

Bands like Backstreet Boys, and the other boy/girl bands who are manufactured instead of showing some musical creativity are the real sludge of the music industry. In lady G's defense(I by no means like her stuff...) at least she writes her own material unlike the others out there.

The bands aren't the ones exploiting. They are just the tool by the people who cretaed them in the first place. Its those people who exploiting the teen massess.

The funny thing is, it is a double edged sword for this type of artist. As SOON as the music isn't popular anymore, that artist generally no longer has a career in music. They get accustomed to that fame and millions and then it is gone as quickly as it appeared.

Teens fuel that fire but they are also ever changing and ready to latch on to the next "new" thing. Beatles sort of started that sort of thing AFAIK, but their music is STILL good today. I highly doubt anyone will look back at Gaga's music even 5 years from now for any reason.

I don't know how to read your post bro .....but if you want a great performance artist, check out Alice Cooper and his stage shows. Not only did that band put on one the best stage acts ever, his music was complex and alot of it, deep. "Only Woman Bleed" was about wife abuse and was written long before it ever became a big public issue.

I'm going to send you the secret smilie decoder ring to help you with that. :p

I happen to like that BSB tune but it's actually the only one I know is theirs. I get that they aren't exactly a mix of Mozart and Pavarotti but I don't need them to be all that. I like the gaga hits as well but I have no plans of fleshing out my music collection with her works. I recently saw bits of Anderson Cooper interviewing her. I wanted to burn my TV. As far as personas go I can't stand Madonna either but some of her songs I like hearing.

I do own Alice Cooper's Greatest Hits
and am playing it now.
Him I consider to be a recording artist as opposed to a recorded performer.

De Gustibus Non Est Disputandum
I do not like her music. Cheap, cookie cutter music. Catchy? Depends on listener.
She doesn't have a great voice (like Celine Dion or many others); her music isn't sophisticated and in general it doesn't stand out in a good way (nothing special). My 2c.
Of all her songs I can only listen to "Teeth"... One song.
I buy quite a bit of new music but not Gaga.
