Just got a Denon 1920 first DVD player and I have a bunch of questions. Not sure about the different formats,eg.I am going to buy a copy of Jazz At The Pawn Shop FIM. Which sounds better sacd or xrcd. How do I listen to a hybrid sacd through the digital input. Is that called PCM. What sounds better the analogue or digital coax. I will be making my own interconnects. I have heard that some players have the full sound from the bass output,is this true with the 1920? OH,did I forget to say that I'M a noob. TIA.:D

DVD-Video - Digital or Optical connection to your amp, set the amp to do Auto detection on the input you connect to. Set the 1920 to output Bitstream via Coax/Optical. - let the amp do the LFE x-over and speaker setups.
DVD-Audio/SACD - use the 5.1 analog outputs on the 1920 to connect to your Ext.In inputs on your amp. On the 1920 set the output to Multi for DVD-A/SACD 5.1 channel or Stereo for 2ch output. On the 1920 you will need to set speaker distances and levels via an SPL meter to ensure speakers are all calibrated.

It you set the 1920 audio output to Bitstrem, it automatically goes out via Coax and Optical.

I presume you have the Coax/Optical output from the 1920 connected to a Coax/Optical input on your amp, so set the Bass x-over in the amp, 80Hz is the normal.

I have done this and set the amp to auto but the only input I can get from the 1920 is multi-channel. I get digital through coax on regular cds. but not hybrids.

You play the DD/DTS tracks, through the digital cable, just like a movie (press dvd button, to listen).
To listen to the High Resolution 5.1 surround, sacd music track, you'll use the six analog cables out from dvd player, to the 5.1 inputs on the receiver. Then press the "Multi-Channel" button, to hear it.
Good luck!

Wtih the 1920 and that receiver you CANNOT get SACD via digital. You MUST use the analog connections. Hybrids are a specific set of SACDs that have both a CD layer and a SACD layer; not all SACDs are hybrid. The player also has a selection for which layer to default to - Multichannel SACD, 2ch SACD, and the CD layer (hybrids only). Not all SACDs are multichannel either, many are 2ch only.

Denon 1920 problem with Hybrid SACD

Wtih the 1920 and that receiver you CANNOT get SACD via digital. You MUST use the analog connections. Hello. I'm hoping you can help with the following problem. I've successfully played a pure SACD only CD on my Denon 1920 and gotten great 5.1 sound using the 6 analog connections. But when playing a Hybrid SACD CD, the 1920 only seems to read the regular CD layer, and doesn't recognize the SACD layer. I only get the standard digital CD two-channel output. When the player is reading a pure SACD disc, it diplays "SACD" in its window, but it only displays "CD" when reading/playing a Hybrid disc.

How can I get the 1920 to recognize a Hybrid SACD disc's SACD layer?

Thank you.

In your setup menu, you should be able to configure which layer of an SACD to read by default, I am guessing it is set to CD currently? The reason why it probably reads a non-hybrid fine is because there is no CD layer.
