I’m looking for advise from the group. Im thinking about going over to Klipsch RP 8000ii Fronts , RP 504c center and RP41m,61 or 600’s for the rear surrounds.

Current system:

5..2 System
Acurus 200w 3 channel amp for my L/C/R.
Onkyo RZ820f AVR for my Subs and Rear surrounds
Def Tech Front L/R Towers -BP8040st
Def Tech Center Channel -CS 8060hd
Surrounds 2 - Def Tech 1000 Promonitors
Subs Goldenear Forcefield 3
SVS SB 2000 sealed (Non Pro model)

Is the Klipsch system an upgrade? I use the system 95% or more for movies. I also just picked up a Denon x3700h to add to the system if the AVR addition changes anything. Please let me know some of your thoughts on this change to Klipsch. . Think you!

That's a difficult comparison to make. You are moving from a bi-polar speaker using dome tweeters to a direct firing speaker using the Tractrix horn. Very different design philosophies between those two. Bi-polar designs tend to go for wide dispersion partly due to the rear firing speakers. One thing I can say is that the Klipsch will definitely sound different than what you are used to. They will also tend to play a little louder at the same volume setting as they have a higher sensitivity rating. So the Klipsch may give a sense of more dynamics in movies. It's going to come down to your own personal preference but the RP 8000ii is a decent speaker in that price range.

Def Tech Front L/R Towers -BP8040st
Def Tech Center Channel -CS 8060hd
Surrounds 2 - Def Tech 1000 Promonitors
You remind me of myself. :D

My screen name “AcuDefTech”- Acu as in Acurus , and DefTech. But now I have neither one. :D

The BP8040 also has the built-in subwoofer amp, which I didn’t like about my old BP7000SC and BP7001SC. Although many people are okay with built-in amps, built-in amps are my one pet peeve.

My old Acurus 200x3 amps didn’t have much speaker protection circuits as I was told by a member here, so I got rid of them too. :D

Between the Klipsch and DefTech, I prefer the Klipsch since they don’t have my pet peeve built-in amps. :D

Not sure if it will be an upgrade , how dynamic are the current speakers you’re using? But the Klipsch icons I’m using are the closest thing to the movie theater I have Had. How ever Klipsch RP are supposed to be a tier or two above mine despite being the same price as mine when on sale. RP2 are supposed to be even better but I haven’t heard either edition. I’m in no hurry to replace anything. If only I could fit a larger Center Channel I’d get the one you are considering or wait on a v3 edition if that’s ever coming .
Def Tech is also high sensitivity … you could compare them for a while see which is better.

Do u have a shop in town u can test the klipsch? I have had many klipsch models. U either hate or love klipsch speakers. Super bright. Need to control the top end so it does not crush at high volume. Going from def tech i would recommend to listen to b&w, paradigm, Martin logen, kef after that u should know what u want to bring home. I just ordered def tech demand d17 to replace my klipsch rp 8000 series setup.

Wonder why def tech demand got discontinued, hope the next series that comes out has a lighter top tower model . Although doubt I would go to def tech, as Klipsch icons I’m using are still running good.
paradigm looks interesting also .

Paradigm is top of the craft. No clue why demand is gone right now. I think they will have a v2 model. Think they want to change one line at a time. Reviews seemed good. I have been looking for that perfect speaker for over 30 years. I dont think I have ever seen a review once where the reviewer had nothing bad to say. Speakers sound different to everyone. Im switching to demand for the better mid driver true 3 way setup. And with the 10 inch rads I hope the low end is stronger.

def tech demand d17 are about 20 pounds heavier ? So they must be larger. I can’t run my towers too long at full range the avr I’m using seems to gone haywire gives them lfe or something way too much bass. I don’t want to wake everyone up at night or risk blowing a driver … two 6.5” per towers should not be so loud. But I got no true spl meter to measure it yet. It’s less powerful than my subs , but more than a small tower should be making . true 3 ways are appealing, although I’d move my towers to surround if I changed front 3. Or I could just replace my cc.

U should not be using lfe with BP line of def tech. They removed the lfe for the dm series. They stated the lfe made to many problems on the BP line. These seem heavy but looking at the specs the klipsch rp 8000 are 43 inch tall and 61 pounds. Looking up the d17 its the same specs..

klipsch rp are a newer line. I haven’t heard them yet. Even if there better there still 2 ways besides the cc. Wish they had 3 ways.
sorry bad wording above .
There Klipsch Icon KF-26, I guess my lfe gets routed to the mains if I shut the subs off to none. But I switched it back a hour or two later . It was way too loud …for night time.

some rew tests. Not the best with rew. lol First one is with the subs and front towers level matched to 75 db in rew. pic two is with 1/12 smoothing

Good luck I don’t have a laptop for rew, and my avr is so old no house curves or way to upload rew data anyways . But I still want to eventually to measure my system see how low it goes etc .. how flat audyseee sets it . Since my avr doesn’t show me any data or graphs .

Setup the d17 towers. All the reviews were correct u need to flip them. Right on the left side. The mid bass out of these towers is crazy. Seems like these need some play time to break in. Like to stiff right now. Longer I played them the better they started to sound. Oh boy are these heavy. Solid cabinets. Not like the klipsch. I might get some time today to get rew with out auddessey. The center is bigger than the klipsch by like 4 inches deeper. Same length. Might be a little taller. I need to build a new shelf to hold it.

Big passive radiator probably out performs the port of the klipsch?

Im thinking so. I can't wait to do some rew readings. These speakers have zero knock noise. So dead sounding.

Yeah probably better bracing . d17 towers have a midrange , unlike klipsch. Do you run them down to near full range ?
passive radiators look interesting but a lot of the subs I see with them are really pricey or too heavy. Right now I’m trying to mix a 10” ported with a 15” sealed ..

I have the d17 set to full range. The nice thing about the marantz av20 is it can run double bass with audessey.
