Kids/Children Bl;uRay Movies to show off surround

Ok, I just got the surround set up, I am looking for some bluRay movies to show off the system a bit. My kids are 7 & 11 what are your recommendations?

The Pixar movies are fantastic for both video and audio. I have Monster, Inc., Cars, and Up, and I like them all. Up isn't as good of a story, IMO (but others here really like it), but the audio and video are superb.

Pretty much any pixar film is good, Bolt has great picture and sound, and come march Toy Story 1 and 2 will be available on blu.

Excellent suggestions, I have Cars on Blu, and the rest on DVD except UP. Up is a good candidate but we did see it already at the Theater. Keep the list coming...

Don't forget Ratatouille and Wall-E from the Pixar library. Wall-E will blow your socks off as a reference disc.

Disney has also put out Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Pinocchio on BD. I only own Snow White and haven't cracked the plastic yet, but supposedly the transfers are gorgeous.

Chronicles and Golden Compass are both known for excessive DNR, and so I've never watched them. I believe it when someone says they are good for surround set up, as the thread title is asking, but to "show off the system a bit", I might look elsewhere. Then again, I'm into the video portion quite a bit when it comes to movies.

Really guys? Nobody recommended Kung Fu Panda. This is at the top of the list for reference BD for both PQ and SQ.

Ratatouille and Wall-E are also excellent. as mentioned by several others.

Another movie that I would highly recommend is Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. I watched this recently and was blown away by the creative animation and storyline. The PQ and SQ were also very good.

Ahh another one would be Over The Hedge. Very good use of surround and excellent PQ.

I was just really trying to come up with some real life stuff that 7-11 year olds might find fun to watch. At that young age, I think they're more visually focused than audio perhaps with the exception of good bass.

OT: what's up with the price of Kung Fu Panda? It doesn't seem to want to come down.

I own Snow White and Pinocchio and they do both look and sound great, but you can only go so far with this type of animation. They already have that 3D look thanks to the multiplane filming. They are still classics no matter what.

Your kids should be fine with Coraline too. That has great sound and excellent PQ. Kung Fu Panda and Ratatouille are at the top of my list too.

Wall-E wasn't that good IMO.

Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride are both excellent films and have great AQ and PQ.

Caroline, The Night before Christmas and the Corpse Bride may be a bit much for my kids. I am proud to say that my kids haven't quite advanced to that stage yet. I want to see them and my son may be there pretty quick too, but, my daughter would definitely not appreciate them.

I liked the PQ & SQ of Wall-E, but, felt the story line just wasn't there.

Then what did you like so far for the kids?

Two animations that are fine for kids that I've enjoyed are Surf's Up and Meet The Robinsons. I didn't list them before because they aren't really reference discs for showing off surround sound. OTOH, the crashing waves in Surf's Up do feel like crashing waves. The waves look incredible. The movie was purposely done with a grainy look as to mimic a documentary, and it's very successful. The voice cast includes Shia Labeouf, Jeff Bridges, Zooey Deschanel, Jon Heder, James Woods.

Meet The Robinsons has a few pretty funny moments, like the kung fu food fight, and is overall pretty entertaining.

Both have excellent PQ.

Open Season, I don't recommend, as I thought it was pretty lame, though the PQ is probably even better than Meet The Robinsons.

Another vote for Kung Fu Panda! Picture and sound quality is top notch. Great clarity, immersive surround effects and quite a bit of LFE throughout the movie. I also enjoy the actual movie itself, unlike most animated films. The scenes that involve Tai Lung are simply amazing. Reference quality BD for sure.
