All I am looking for a decent pair of speakers for my family room that will most likely be used for 2 channel audio with a small sub to accent the low end slightly. I need them to look really nice and obviously sound good also. I have noticed some great deals out there on the KEF iQ line. I would likely go with the iQ5($350/pr in applewood finish), since it is very affordable and will be running a sub. However the iQ7 is still reasonable ($500/pr in applewood) and would consider it also. Not sure if I need the larger driver with a sub. Anybody heard these and think it is a decent deal.

Thanks

Jeff

i think the KEF Q series are great sounding for the price, but whether you have a floorstander or not, the sub is necessary ... what i'm saying is, aside from more bass from the floorstander, you get better mids due to less work put on the mid driver. IMO

I know Mike C likes his IQ5.
i have the Q1 :)

but yeah i really like them!

The iQ line has been recently updated, therefore the deals on the old models.

For what it's worth, the iQ5 may be a better choice than the 7. That said, I second Mike C; the iQ series does sound nice for the price... but we have a little bias. ;)

I have a set of IQ3s (similar config in a bookshelf). I briefly tried them in main listening area (17' X 20' x 10 H) and they did not fill the room adequately...assuming you like them otherwise, the size of the room may be the main consideration between the 5s and 7s...

with a 12" 150 watt Klipsch sub....the speakers themselves sounded "small" and localized...see if you can listen in a room about the size of yours or larger....

I would be running a sub with them. Right now they would be with 12" infinity, however that will be soon upgraded. Not sure what yet though. I may end up having them in a large room and buying the maching iQ6 for a center and they will be used as a HT and for listening to music. Not really sure yet. Too many rooms in my house that need to be updated.....I am basically looking for something the will give a a very good sound that have the flexibility to play any music well and HT. From the reviews I have been reading they seem like a decent option for that. Not to mention I can pick up the 5's for $350/pr or the 7's for $500. Either is a very good price.

Small Kefs are great if you can sit fairly close to them. Especially for surround sound. I have the kef 2001.2 3 speaker set for my rears and I love them. They have a very high WAF. Of course i got mine from a scorned woman for 120 for all 3. So you can't beat that bang for buck.

I wouldn't suggest them for a large room with a lot of distance from you.

Clarity is probably their best strength.

What is considered Close? and what does WAF mean? I will likely be sitting about 14-15 feet back from the speakers.

I have not even listened to them yet. I have to drive an hour to listen. I am feeling it out and trying to get some opinions. I am really looking for a nice set at a great price. And they must look nice so my wife is happy also. The KEF from what I have read seemed like a very viable option. How much are the T45s? My budget maxes out near the $500 mark unless I wait to purchase for several more months.

T45 will cost you 499 + tax at Saturday Audio or dmc electronics. I went with Saturday Audio as I live in Chicago.

Jeff,

Where are you finding them at that price. I just looked at the IQ5's at a dealer in Chicago and they were $500 for the pair

I also heard them a few years back in about a 3000 cu. ft. space and they filled the room and sounded nice. I really liked the applewood finish. Combine them with a good sub and enjoy the HT experience.
