Hey Im new to this audio stuff. Im looking to buy a reasonable reciever. I have read that watts dont really matter, so I'll just ask you. Im looking at this reciever:http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10075169&catid=10551&logon=&langid=EN&MSCSProfile=3C79F0C7EA3162B2AD2D24472DF6467F52F513CE1B62531AAF8ABAF7391B5C9994ACF39FF2E7D5A3DDC10B6058EB5C872ED5F25BA3819C73290E0C52383CB82A2CA50C3CB069BA641F87CF08FAFE232A2BB29DBCA7634EE0F47E8CC2EBA7EB01B846B24885BDE546FFD13E5A3303DEF43224FEC9D77945E5&test_cookie=1

I want a reciever for watching movies some times loud and listening to music. Do you believe this a decent reciever or is this missing really big features. Mind you I dont really care about DTS.(Im a dolby man)

thank you

Jvc.......

I bet if you were asking for advise on a $600.00 reciever you would have plenty of answers.
Few people in this site care about budget gear.

It may not be bad but you could spend your money and get a better receiver

The receiver you listed may not be "Bad" but for your money you could pick up a Pioneer VSX-816 at Best-Buy or Circuit-City. The problem I see with the JVC is it has ony two digital inputs. Belive me you can outgrow that rather quickly. And that is one of the most important things to keep in mind when purchasing a receiver. Also the JVC has no component video inputs, the Pioneer has three, so if you now have or in the future are planning on going high-def you could use the Pioneer for your audio video switch. You could not do this with the JVC. Bottom line you could buy better for the price. Write back with any more questions you may have. I do not think the lack of response was due to your question, I just don't think that many people are on right now. Look the receiver I listed up and see if that would better suit you.

Well I started with the jvc 7030vbk(bought from FS) so its a good starter unit the the spec's are better then the one your looking at.Just remember this hobby can get expensive because you always look to improve, but that said the most important part of H/T is the speakers.Oh, one last thing you say your a dolby guy well dvd in dts sound are more detailed and sharper I much prefer it if avail as a choice on dvd's option menu?:D

JVC Receiver

I have to agree with Wafflebird. The Pioneer VSX-816 is a superior receiver in all ways compare to the JVC model you listed and the price is comparable.

The Pioneer also has pre-outs, in the likely event that you would like to add an amp to this receiver at a later date.

Having three components inputs on this receiver is a Godsend and the sound matches very closely a 6 year old Pioneer Elite I had.

You can not go wrong with the Pioneer and you will be happy that you did.

Hope that helps.
