Jumpers/Power cord Upgrade:Fact or Fiction?

so everybody here with half a brain or better uses the cheap cables that came with their systems
Well built non-defective cables have no audible impact on sound.

i tell you this is kind of like a bunch of athiests trying to convince a christian God doesnt exist.
That's not a comparable argument. One can measure and prove the existence or non-existence of differences between cables. One can not "measure and prove" that God does not exist.

I tell you what... if I'm going to spend 2k or more on an amp and that much or more on speakers.. I'll just play things safe and get a better set of cables.. just in case I mean why not
That's fine. However when you see a thread started like this one and all posts seem to be pointing in one direction and you have a different opinion you should consider the possibility and look into some of these double blind tests. Doing so could save you a lot of money. Why not save money?

and just in case there is a god I'll try to be a decent person and not call them idiots for believing something different from me ;)
I wouldn't say someone that believes that cables have sonic signatures is an idiot, I'd say they are ignorant. Using words like, stupid, idiot, moron, dummy etc... are not applicable to all these situations. Most often what applies is ignorance and a heavy layer of logical resistance.

heres another question...

if a mistubishi evo does 0-60 in 4 seconds the same and a porsche 911 turbo then they must be equal and there is no reason to buy the 911 turbo right? i mean the 0-60 time is the same ....

I guess everyone here would drive an evo?
You are talking about cars that are completely different from one another and are not comparable in this same sense. One power cord may differ from another in the purity of the copper or the conductive metal used, they may even have a different jackets or shielding. A power cord has such a specific task you would have to either try to make it perform poorly, or have no idea what you are doing (for example, people that use telephone wire for speaker cables have no idea what they are doing).

Sorry, I know it's an old thread.

honestly and i know this is like witchcraft on this site but I noticed an improvement when i upgraded my power cables on all of my amps. I didnt spend a fortune but in my opinion it was the most noticable improvement I ever made without upgrading equipment.

ok everyone you can build the fire and get ready to burn me at the stake :)
This is just rehashing the info from the other threads about power cables. Unless the OEM cord is defective or carrying too much current, using a different one will make no difference. It's conducting 60Hz 120VAC, not the actual audio signal. It has to go through the whole power supply before it even gets to the output devices and that's as close as it gets to the audio signal. For that matter, it's not even AC voltage once it leaves the power supply, so I would love to read someone's explanation for why it improves the sound. Oscillograms of the waveform would help. If the equipment is in an environment that has a lot of RF, shielding may help but most people don't have to worry about that to the extent that it will make a huge difference. We're not talking about medical diagnostic equipment that could mean the difference between an accurate diagnosis, or death.

For what its worth....

When Audioholics themselves post up reviews of speaker cables like what you linked chris... they have gotten jumped on many many times just the same by everyone here that has some knowledge about the science of copper moving electrons... Read the forum discussions about how even Audioholics feels that exotic speaker wire is just snake oil....

If your looking for a product that makes your system look better, I'm completely all for it, nothing wrong with dressing up the looks of a system but to fight that it made the system sound better is pretty preposterous for anyone that has a good grasp of how electricity actually works.

Power chords are no different, they transmit current.... they can not magically clean up poor electrical problems that are coming from your 39 cent wall outlet, or the 14ga wires in your walls that your builder got by ordering from the cheapest place he could find it...

Where do you draw the line as to what has value and merit from the goofy things these amazing writers put into the heads of people chasing the dream to audio nirvana...

Brilliant Pebbles
Cable Elevators
The Hallograph
Soundfield Optimizer

Shakti Electromagnetic Stabilizer

People here just want the world to know there are people out there preying on the innocence of a dream - they should be warned about these types of predators... This is why when threads that pop up like this, honest individuals will stop at nothing to spell out the truth - and I for one am thankful they are here to dispell some of the myths, and others should be as well.
