The Prime Pinnacle is a pretty good speaker. The Polk LSiM speakers are a very difficult load for an amplifier, so you should have a good amp before considering those. Your Pioneer AVR won't cut it. I did hear those Boston Acoustics speakers a few years ago and I liked them. The JBL Loft speakers probably aren't terrible, but I don't know much about them. The Definitive Technology Speakers are expected to be used in a larger room than what you have due to the bipole design. I don't that would work well in your situation.

One thing you should consider is the tweeter height versus your listening position. If you do go with a tower speaker, make sure the height of the tweeter is roughly level with your ear height when seated in your listening position. Measure your ear height at the position that you normally listen to your system at, and see how high these towers are and where the tweeter is mounted on the tower.

But again, I don't know why you are so hung up on these tower speakers. Their advantages over bookshelf speakers are headroom and bass extension. You won't be taking advantage of the bass extension since you are using subwoofers, and you certainly won't be taking advantage of their dynamic range since they can get way louder than you would be able to tolerate at such a close distance. Bigger isn't necessarily better with regards to loudspeakers.
Thanks for the info

There are 2 main reasons I want towers, I like how towers look as they are more imposing than bookshelf speakers and they are much easier to set up for me since I don't have to get stands for them.
Also thanks for the tip about the tweeters being ear level, I'll have to measure my current ones as they are about perfectly ear level.

This may be entirely subjective but I noticed on my brothers system he had bookshelf speakers and tower speakers that were from the same brand (and model) and the towers also seemed to make a "fuller, smoother" sound.

The tweeter height of your present speakers look to be very low compared to the listening position, at lest from what i can make of the pictures.

The "fuller, smoother" sound could be attributed to a number of things, but that doesn't have much to do with the form factor of the speaker. A bookshelf speaker could easily have the same sonic character versus a tower, it depends on the voicing of the speaker as well as the expectations of the listener, not to mention the acoustic circumstances that the speakers are being heard in.

I get the desire for beefier-looking audio equipment, however. If you can swing the budget for them, take a look at some KEF Q750s. They will throw out a good sound over a wide area, and can be listened to at a relatively close proximity for a 3-way tower. That is due to the coaxial design of the tweeter/midrange. If you want an imposing-looking bookshelf speaker, check out the Hsu CCB-8 speakers. They are large and relatively powerful bookshelf speakers that also use a coaxial design.

very nice thanks a bunch, I'll do a bit more research.
As far as the listening position height tweeters are about half a foot or so below me so yea a tad taller would be good.

Hello i'm new here and would like some judgements and suggestions on my setup currently. ;)

Components so far:
Turntable - audio technica AT-LP60 with an external (Dynasty ProAudio DA-UA2D) preamp and a LP GEAR CFN3600LE stylus.
View attachment 34983
Receiver - pioneer vsx1130
View attachment 34991
Mains - "DOGG" digital audio - model SL-1400
View attachment 34984View attachment 34985
Center - Polk Audio CS10
View attachment 34986
Surround - Dayton Audio T652
View attachment 34987View attachment 34989

Subwoofer's - Polk Audio PSW10
Logitech Z2300
JBL SUB135P Powered by a Acoustic Audio WS1005 (respectively)
View attachment 34988View attachment 34987View attachment 34990<------(I have an old sub connected to the JBL as a passive radiator)

The receiver is running the mains in BI-AMP mode so the 10" woofers are powered separate from the sealed mids and highs cabinet.
I have it all tuned to a 80hz overall crossover to my room and placement is as good as I can manage with the space available.
The receiver is currently connected via hdmi with pcm decoding with 24bit 192000 5.1 channel settings on windows.

Any suggestions or Improvements to the placement or the Components themselves are welcome but keep in mind I am on a bit of a budget for a while.
Not to trudge up my old thread but for those with any interest I have changed my setup around with the speakers now more parallel with the listening position and moved out of corners enough to not resonate too much with the walls.

Links are to my saved setup photos through discord the previews are too large for the server on the site to process.

Having my setup like this is as parallel as I can make it at the moment, so far the results are much better than before. The frequency response per speaker is much flatter and the tones per speaker sound as close to neutral as I can make, Its a world of difference.

Yes, they really are that bad. There is no crossover or any other modification that will make those speakers even listenable. I think you should click on Shady's link and read up a little bit on the white van speaker scam. It's a huge, global thing now and they've been ripping people off for years. It's actually astounding that they still even operate.
Wait! This is still a thing?? I mean this has been a thing since I can remember. With the internet at everyone’s fingertips I don’t know how they can still operate? White van speakers in 2020, Amazing....

ill give you a hint. ;) they are made by pioneer in the 70's or 80's from what I can tell and sold for around 1200$ at the time. They also weigh about 85lbs each.

I am blown away by the clarity of the mids and the smoothness of the highs (no shimmer or sparkle but all the detail is present in what I suspect is a waveguided aluminum dome) and the lows are so good and loud that I've received my first noise complaint from just these speakers playing from 4-5 rooms away in a apartment on the other side of the building at moderate volume.:p

P.S. anyone know of a good bass trap I will welcome some suggestions;)

I bought them around 5 years ago and they had been in storage for an unknown amount of time but I think the previous owner purchased them about 2005-2008ish based on what he told me.

Kind of sounds like a pair of Polk SDA 2’s. Mine are from 1983 ran $1200 a pair new. Except for the aluminum dome kind of nixes that.

Is it actually an aluminum dome or their trilaminate tweeter?

From the nameplate on the front of the towers they are "Pioneer S-T500"s
as far as I can tell the tweeter has a small perforated plastic ring acting as I can only assume is a waveguide for the tweeter and both the tweeter and mid have a grill over the individual speaker.

There are 2 woofers facing opposite each other in the same cabinet in a push pull in phase out of phase deal both towers have 2 8" woofers in this config,

the bass they put out can actually drown out my old Polk audio psw10 very easily but the new 2 Dayton audio SUB-1200's I got setup with reverse phase actually can complement them very nicely i notice the difference exponentially when I setup these subs correctly.

That LP gear phono stylus is a decent inexpensive stylus. I have one that fits my REGA Carbon so I can switch between a conical and elliptical tip.

I wish I could help you organize that room a bit better and of course setup your new speakers. Yeah that 3600 is the best $10 I’ve spent on a cartridge. Why all those screens? Gamer or cop surveillance?

gamer, also my room is in much better organization now ill post a pic here on Tuesday after I get some nice things to add to it (better cable management solutions for instance)

Yea the stylus is great I notice its much more refined than the old tip it came with but that old tip had an unknown amount of playtime on it so anything would have sounded superior I'm sure.
