JBL PB12 subwoofer shuts off at normal volume

Unfortunately the sub doesn't have a dedicated "on" position so I'm kind of out of luck.

I'm definitely in the market for a new one and want to upgrade to something better. However, to tell the truth, I've been happy with the JBL. It's lasted several years and I didn't pay much for it - I think it was half-price on clearance at Best Buy. That was the selling point. Otherwise, I would have bought something else.

I've purposely avoided listening to better systems knowing I'd want to go out and upgrade immediately. In my little world, my system sounds great - at least when I have nothing to compare against. Still, my thought process has always been that when something goes out and needs to be replaced, it's an excuse to upgrade.

Anyway, I guess I have some reading to do to figure out what I want. HSU and SVS seem to be popular. Anything else I should check out? Probably in the $600 range. I doubt I could sneak anything higher past my wife...

Including all the models they make I think Hsu and SVS compare very well against anything else in the $600 price range. Just need to pick your weapon depending on room size, and the type of listening you do and so forth.

I recently moved from Washington to Florida and ran into an issue with my subwoofer (JBL PB12)
I just had the same problem with my JBL ES150P from my yamaha.

I had followed the instruction from the yamaha which suggests setting the volume and crossover knobs on the rear of the sub to mid position before
running the auto setup with the microphone on the yamaha.

The yamaha set the subs output level at -5.5db because the volume on the rear of the sub was set to the middle.

I, like you changed cables with no luck and noticed as soon as I turn main volume up on the yamaha the sub would power back on after it'd been in standby
from simply having main volume down.

To correct the problem. I turned the volume on the rear of the JBL sub down below halfway, then turned the level output to the sub up from -5.5 to plus 8.0 on the yamaha.

Problem solved. The JBL is not getting a higher signal therefore keeping it powered up.
