There's some fun background stuff that I didn't know about each of these guys, which ultimately is what the film ends up being about - their influences and how they got started. It has them at various times showing the others how to play chords of some best known songs, which I enjoyed. I say give this one a rent.

Thats a great place with good deals, personally the movie is like a rock and roll documentary, but the interesting fact is how the boys with different occupations joined and made a succesfull band.

I'm a little better than half way through this and am really enjoying it. Jimmy Page playing air guitar is pretty fun to watch because you can tell that he is thoroughly enjoying himself and the music that he is playing to.

Definitely worth a rental especially if you like any of their music or play the guitar.

I liked the film but I find Jack White tends to pander to the camera too much. It's as if his segments are like reality TV while the Edge and Jimmy were more like documentaries. I also wished they did more behind the scenes techie stuff like when the Edge was showing his pedals and how he gets the sound.

The "summit" was a bit of a let down, imho.

I've watched it about 4 times now. Definitely worth the blind buy for me, but I enjoy the music of all 3 of these guys. So distinct, yet they all have a common thread. It is pretty fun to see them ask about each other's techniques and specific songs. Watch the deleted scenes, there's a lot of good stuff in there too.

I really was hoping for a lot more of them playing in the film, but I still liked it.

I find Jack White tends to pander to the camera too much.

I worked hard at not mentioning my dislike of him.
His parents probably stopped having kids because they didn't like him either.

It was a blind buy for me and I have to say I enjoyed it more than I thought, but it also was not what I was expecting. I, too, was hoping for a little more of the guys playing together, but this is not a concert disc; it's a documentary of three musicians from three eras and their story of how they came to where they are musically.
J is right on a lot more being in the extras and yes, Jack does seem to love the camera. I have to admit that after watching this I have a much greater appreciation for his work, how he listens and strives to be a better musician that wants to learn and grow. It's inresting how all of them seem to trace back to Blues as their big inspiration. The Edge's face and especially Jack's when Page starts playing some Zep is almost worth it.
If you love music, especially electric guitar, I would say buy it.


PS I thouhgt that kid with Jack was his son, too, until I watched the extras!

I am a fan of Jack's music. Not so much a fan of him...but he is an interesting character for sure. I think I appreciate him more having seen where he's coming from musically. The whole "wrong direction" thing was very intriguing in that moving back toward simplicity is always the way it seems to work the best There was maybe a little too much Jack in this one though.

It is funny though, that the influences weren't blues - Jimmy was saying they did that because it was different from what everyone else was doing back then.

Jack White's influences are primarilly blues as well.
