It doesnt matter how good your speakers are if you cant hear: Tinnitus

Tintinitus can also show up in older people (men more so) with otherwise healthy hearing.

I had my ears tested in my late 30s and had quite good hearing. I now hear a constant ringing.

If I'm lucky its above 15kHz where I can't hear anything anyway so it dosn't/won't interfere with music.

Stress and tobacco are another few things that contribute to tinnitus as well. Smoking narrows the blood vessels which supply oxygen to your ears and their sensory cells which could then increase your tinnitus. Stress just has an effect on everything in your body
Great! I smoke too! So if I gave up coffee, chocolate and smoking, the ringing would subside? Now there is yet another good reason to quit smoking.

At least there's hope.:)

Gosh I thought I was one of the few with small hearing dammage. I thought that you guys were SO reasonable and turn the volume down. Then what's the point of all those watts in the trunk?! Lol. Seriously, during the day, it blends in with all other noises, but the worst is when you lay down to get a good night sleep. Maybe it ain't Tinnitus but it's like a high frequency hiss; the same as when you put your head behind a tube TV.

The only problem is that I think that a speaker only comes alive once it reached loud levels. My drug is to FEEL the mid-bass from techno beats and strings of electric guitar run through me. I like to feel the air vibrate. I'm not a bass maniac, but I sure enjoy mid-bass too much.

People get carried away with sound just like booze, a couple of good tasting beers go a long way, ditto with a couple glasses of wine, start going beyond that and you know what comes next, the hangover, the headaches, the upset stomach (geez sounds like a commercial for Alka-Seltzer!) Same with sound, cross the threshold and you start doing irreparable damage without knowing it till it's too late, most older rock stars suffer from hearing loss/damage, especially guitar players. I can only turn up my Marshall about 1/3 before it gets a bit uncomfortable. The doctor told me, "once you've got the ringing, the damage is done and until they find a cure, it's yours."

There are a lot of medical journals published about Tinnitus and all of those things mentioned above can have an impact. The extent to which varies from individuals. But if your tinnitus is chronic then unfortunetly you will be living with it for the rest of your life (as of now their is no cure) the only thing that you can do is make lifestyle changes to elleviate some of it. Some of them might have no impact on the tinnitus others might be more noticable.
