I think some people may benefit from external amps, but they usually own separates like pre-pros, preamps, and externally-powered subwoofers. Or they have bigger rooms, sit far away from their speakers, and listen louder than they should. I think most people have rooms that are 15' x 18' x 10' or smaller, have speakers that are usually 4-ohm or higher, and listen to more sensible volume. You could possibly use one that's laying around, but not the ideal solution
