$30 is a great deal, but, you need to finalize the speakers before a receiver can be shortlisted. At minimum, the receiver does not have HDMI and pre-outs. This reduces your connection options.

yup, but the hdmi is for video and audio together. I just need it for audio. I can can take digital rca cords from tv or xbox to the receiver fine , right? Is there any need for hdmi if im just running audio? and the guy wont go down to 30 he said 50, so im on my way to pick it up now. got to go way down the pass to garden of the gods. I hate leaving my mountains.

If you are running just audio to the receiver, you will be fine since it has enough RCA and digital inputs.

Do I need a center channel speaker? if yes, what should I get and what to do about the ohm difference?

Don't worry about the ohm difference, and a center speaker is not obligatory.

A center speaker is best with HT, not necessary for anything else except SACD. Even then with good left and rights, a phantom center works well.

In my opinion most center speakers are so bad, you are better off without them. Any rig I have heard at Best Buy the center has been a total distraction.

Now you have a sub I would play it most of the time in 2.1 stereo mode.

As I understand it you have left and right fronts, a sub and surrounds. When you set up your receiver, do your speaker set up and just select the speakers you have and say no to the speakers you do not have. Then do your set up and let the receiver select the appropriate speakers by source. In your set up I would suggest you always play 2 channel sources with left and right speakers and the sub only. Make all your speakers set to small and let Audyssey do the rest.
