On the pre-processor side of the house it's 80% software development. Mc isn't nearly a big enough company to have a deep bench of hard core dev's pounding out C code.
Well I guess if they are farming out production of their receivers and pre pros as is indicated they are using other's software like Marantz. At that point then surely only paying for aesthetics then I suppose.

I have a strange setup in the office. I have 3 speakers and I run them in all channel stereo frequently. Two channels in front of me another in a corner behind me. It creates a nice immersive sound to be honest. So I like the idea of having a 5 channel receiver or pre pro for that reason vs a 2 channel.
Yeah, makes sense, in that case you need a multi-channel solution. I've been thinking of adding this to my office:

McIntosh is a legacy older brand that recruited snob respect and excellent reviews back in the 60’s+ against competition from brands like kenwood, fischer, & Scott, I used to sell those in my college days.

Today they are holding on dearly to us older crowd who remember them. But they are and will continue to be outcompeted with no in house R&D and lasting corporate ownership.

How many would they really need?

On a side note, do you know much about the possible TP Link router ban and whether it will affect WAPs? Maybe we should start a network security thread WRT bans, etc.

Never knew audio/AV was akin to a fashion show with women in short skirts on the red carpet!
Look at some of the most expensive speakers- once the design has been determined, they turn into nice furniture and that adds a (sometimes) tremendous amount to the final price.
