Is it possible to store analog audio on optical disc?

I read that FAQ. I guess it's based on PWM, but I'm still a little fuzzy.

Yes, it is a different encoding of the pits and lands to correspond to a frequency modulation time base and that is how it is decoded. The time between the pits and or lands is converted to a frequency modulated signal that becomes the video signal. The audio was both, analog then digital as the years passed on in the life of LD.
