You see. This is where ID dealers that offer a great return policy get you. If you won't return a $50 cable, why would you return a whole set of speakers. You will stand by your purchase and rave about the quality of what you purchased to somehow make yourself believe it was worth it. I am guilty as well.
I don't brag about cables anymore. I still use the cable, but I am in no way proud of the purchase. Sometimes it makes me sick thinking about some of the ignorant purchases I have made. A/V cables don't represent a good investment, most people don't want to buy used cables.:(

I didn't me you. I meant you, as in anyone. Mostly refering to ID speaker companies. Got a little mixed-up with another thread. One too many Sam Adams.

Yea, it is noticeable, there are typos.:D

I can't say I have been on the forum but once when I was drunk. It was late and nothing was going on though.:)

I will say this about cables: they are audio jewelry.
if a cable will be seen, why not get the pretty one? not that you have to spend a huge amount of money just to buy something that looks good, if you can get a good price, why not buy the one that looks cool, my AQ's cost me less than BJC of the same langth, but the AQ cables are flashy. :p

You should always buy the cheaper cable and overclock! How do you do that? Well start out by making sure you keep your receiver at a higherlevel from the ground than the speakers. This will cause a higher potential difference between the speakers and the receiver as the signal will now flow down-hill. This in essence, allows you to over-clock your cables, which in turn implies that you must have the proper cooling for your cables. Be sure to strip all insulation from the cable just before it goes into the speaker and attach a heatsink-fan (HSF) using only the best thermal paste. This will be where the biggest heat build up will occur as all the current will race down-hill and enter a bottle neck before going into the speaker.

Of course fans lead to added noise in the system, so you should probably look at water-cooling :D

But don't worry, at least you went for the cheaper cable and saved some money!!! Didn't fall for that Monster/Silver Snake marketing FUD, you sly dog you :)

Please tell me you aren't serious. Are you implying that more expensive cables actually perform better, I sure hope not.

Of course he's serious. He has an extremely well written response, and he also lets you know that that cats are a good protein source - how can you doubt him?

btw, the REAL upgrade is not in cables, but in getting amps that go up to 11.

That's why 'audiophiles' are often broke - always willing to mortgage their future on expensive upgrades of dubious value.

Take a drive through any poor neighborhood in your area. You will likely see houses falling apart at the seams but $40K SUVs and boats parked in the dilapidated driveway. I bet most of those people are audiophiles too.:D

Do any of you guys use the unshielded cables that come with lets say a dvd player?

I do, but only when connecting the TV sound to the receiver or a VCR. They feel cheap because they are, and they fall apart easier. I buy Acoustic Research then I am done with it.:)

How about component video cables? My cable company provided a set with an HD-DVR converter box.

They will work fine, they are usually pretty durable, the shielded ones anyway. Since that is what they gave you, they will perform as a cable performs. It conducts the signal, that is all it needs to do.:)

Let me come clean as they say. The coponent video wire provided by Cox Cable is Steren PYTHON. Probably $15 on line. That was a year ago when I got my first HDTV. That was the begining of wire fever for me. I'm over it now but let me say that getting Monster Video 2 grade component cable seemed to make a noticable difference to me and my girlfriend could see it too. We could both be nuts. That paticular grade is when they actually start talking about it being 75 ohm.

I know that there are some guys on these forums that actually understand sweep testing at 3 GHz and all that. I however do not. If wire is wire then maybe the improvement we noticed was due to routing the wires away from the power wires or something or maybe inadvertantly making a better connection. Deep down I believe that the signals sent on component cables are way better off being well shielded and routed well away from 120 volts. I'm not as fanatical about audio interconnects.

I honestly do respect the amount of effort it takes to understand the science behind electronics. So if I'm just being a nut I'd like to be told. That way I could get over it. Have I been taking stupid pills again?
