Intermittent "Chirping" glitch noise from TV optical connection to DAC

My TV is connected to my DAC via an optical cable. I have had it this way for awhile and never started to experience any problem until recently. For TV I do streaming from various providers through a ROKU streaming stick. Sometimes with Peacock, MAX, PBS, etc.

It doesn't seem to be limited to one provider but occurs intermittently. Usually a short glitch noise but it's annoying. The rest of the time the audio works fine. I tried replacing the optical cable (with a new one) which seemed to help a little but the noise still occurs occasionally. All my settings are set to PCM 2 channel.

Not sure what is going on, if it's the TV or the DAC or the streaming providers. Both are only about 3-4 years old. Any idea what might be causing this? I do have USB hooked up to the DAC which I used to use a lot but rarely use anymore. I have the cord dangling on a rack but it's been like that forever and never used to be an issue.

The problem is that we don't know what is going on either. The most important thing to check is that inputs and outputs match as far as bit rate etc. It sounds most likely that you have some type of mismatch between input and output. So what are your settings?

All the settings are two channel PCM. The TV can only output 24/48 PCM from the optical connection to the DAC, which is clearly displayed on the DAC display. The program channel and TV settings are correct.

Yesterday my spouse played a PS5 video game for a couple of hours and there were no audio glitches whatsoever. So I am starting to wonder if the audio glitches are related to something other than the TV itself or the DAC.

I do use a Roku device for streaming TV and movies which might be contributing to the problem. It is a few years old and there are multiple reports of audio and other glitches with the device from some users. It wasn't something I noticed before, but might be an issue now.

It does have an HDMI input and uses an extender cable plus a USB cable into the TV for power. I may consider upgrading the device to a different one that runs off AC power instead.

Dac has rca outputs. Dac has no amp. Outputs from rca are line level. Those go to rca inputs of a 2 channel integrated amp.

Ah, I see, TV has no analog out and I presume no adapter to allow connection to the integrated. My guess would be a glitch in the streams themselves. PS5 the audio is OK because it is directly generating the content, while streaming things means you may have random "blips" which might cause this.

Sounds like the Roku chirp/beep. What Roku do you have ?

check for roku updates, make sure your stick is updated.
Or try re-pairing your TV to your Roku.

It's the 4K streaming stick. And yeah it does seem to drain the AAA batteries very quickly. I'm thinking of upgrading to the model that comes with a rechargeable remote. I just put in new batteries the other day, but I'm also getting tired of replacing batteries so often. I'm not sure of the exact age of the model because it was given to me by a friend. Might have to check my online account and see.

We have the Roku Ultra and battery life is better. The newer models seem to perform better. Our units has that chirp when the batteries reach a low point, and you go into settings and see the remaining battery life under the remote area.
