Infinity BETA 50 and BETA C360

I'm looking to purchase these speakers today from ww.theaudiovideosource.com

I have a question regarding bi-wiring the 50's. Should I connect the high's to my "A" speaker outputs and the Low's to my "B" speaker outputs of my yamaha receiver? Would I then just select "Speakers A+B" through my receiver to get the best performance?

Any (and I do mean ANY) advice, comments and/or warnings are appreciated.

secondly, even bi-amping is pretty much useless.

I have a pair of BETA 50's, I tried bi-amping them with a 100w x 7 Rotel amp. No difference. what made the bigger difference was adding the amp in the first place (during loud playback). but the bi-amping, no.

Is their a way to amp just these front speakers? My receiver is 130wx7. Most amps I see are only like 40-50w, without getting crazy $$$.

You could purchase a Behringer EP2500 amplifier. It is built to high standards and is low cost($350 average street price). It can drive virtually any load. It has a signal to noise ratio, unweighted, of about -110dB. Very low distortion. It offers 450 watts per channel at 8 ohms. 650 per channel at 4 ohms. 1000 per channel at 2 ohms. Or you can bridge it mono to 2000 watts into 4 ohms. These are real power ratings, measured by a credible 3rd party Crown Technician on AVS forum. Both channels driven. Your receiver may not even produce the power output that it claims.

Now, do you need this much power? No. Not in normal circumstances. But you can rest easy that under no practical circumstance are you likely to get the amplifier to clip.

It does have a cooling fan, so that makes a little noise. You can remove that little bit of noise if needed by changing the fan (very easy) out with an $8 low noise Panaflo fan.

I also noticed the 1500 model as well.

I ordered the Beta speakers and am going to try them out for a bit first. If I feel I need more, I'll definately check these out again.

The EP1500 is only $50 less. But it is a substantial downgrade in power. Since you must double power to gain only 3dB, it would not seem to make much sense to merely double your power as compared to what your receiver offers when for only $50 more, you can nearly quadruple your available power.

i agree with wmax. it's either you get the 2500 model or the A500 model ... practically no one goes for the 1500.

the ep2500 has more watts per dollar but the a500 has no fans.

and yes, you can power the front two speakers only, you can calibrate the level in your receiver to match the other channels.

I will be receiving the speakers today. I am going to just hook them up normally, then I'll try bi-polar to see if their is a difference. Later, I'll probably get the amp.

In other news, I currently have Orb Mod 2's up front (actually a 6.1 setup). I really like them and am going to try and make my RR, RC, RL into Mod 4's using the fronts and center that are being replaced.

i'd say that the rx-v2500 is more than enough to power the BETA 50's unless you listen real loud.

I had another general question.

My receiver is 130w x 7. If I do hook up the fronts bi-polar via A+B outputs, and select A+B on the receiver, would both A and B push out 130W or would it be 65W each?

you mean bi-amp? like I said in post #2, speaker A+B is connected to the same amplifier. so it will most definitely not be 130w x 4

if you have a 7.1 receiver you might be able to use the side surround amp sections to bi-amp.

One more question. Should I set my fronts and center to "small" or "large"

I also have the option to send bass to the sub or to both the sub and the fronts.

Well, I set everything up on Friday. They sound great and I can definatley pick out more notes out of songs than was possible with the Orbs.

With that said, even after listening to the new speakers, I'm still impressed by what my Orbs were able to do at ~1/1000th the size of these Infiniti's

Still playing around with bass output, speaker size settings, etc. So far so good.
