It can sum the stereo signal to mono for old gear without a sub pre-out....it might provide a bit more gain up front if you have a low pre-out signal.....why are you asking?

I sold a sub and the person told me to put a Y on it and he called me and told me that the sub is harder to hear

If you sold it as-is, why are you still involved? He probably has no clue how to setup a sub would be my guess...

While you can 'wye' or "Y" one output into two inputs.
You should not 'wye' or "Y" two output into one input.

Nothing. It only raises I’m the input sensitivity. Max output will stay the same, but in normal ranges you might need to trim the gain back in the sub itself to keep the same level as using one input. Basically, it’s not worth the cost of the Y adapter.
For the old sub sale, he probably doesn’t know what he’s doing, or what to expect. Better placement, or integration should help. Or just turn it up!!!
