Perhaps you should re-read it and my post. What I said, with greater brevity, is exactly what it says.

Zhimbo do you just argue for argument's sake? I believe you've attacked other's "reading comprehension skills" in the past. Look inward.
No, I hate arguing for argument's sake! Clearly you don't know me well at all. That I hate arguing for arguments sake is one reason I was so brief in my reply. If I enjoyed arguing for argument's sake, wouldn't I have taken the opportunity to go on and on and on?

And no, IMO, you did not say what Snopes said, and I encourage everyone to read the Snopes page. Here are some things you left out:

http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp

Clearly, although Gore's phrasing was clumsy (and perhaps self-serving), he was not claiming that he "invented" the Internet (in the sense of having designed or implemented it), but that he was responsible, in an economic and legislative sense, for fostering the development the technology that we now know as the Internet.

[...]

If President Eisenhower had said in the mid-1960s that he, while President, "created" the Interstate Highway System, we would not have seen dozens and dozens of editorials lampooning him for claiming he "invented" the concept of highways or implying that he personally went out and dug ditches across the country to help build the roadway. Everyone would have understood that Ike meant he was a driving force behind the legislation that created the highway system, and this was the very same concept Al Gore was expressing about himself with his Internet statement.

[...]

It is true, though, that Gore was popularizing the term "information superhighway" in the early 1990s (although he did not, as is often claimed by others, coin the phrase himself) when few people outside academia or the computer/defense industries had heard of the Internet, and he sponsored the 1988 National High-Performance Computer Act (which established a national computing plan and helped link universities and libraries via a shared network) and cosponsored the Information Infrastructure and Technology Act of 1992 (which opened the Internet to commercial traffic).

Nice, Zhimbo. I find very interesting that you edited out the very parts that are most salient to what I said. Here, let me flesh out the snopes quote for you and the readers you're trying to mislead here.

From Snopes...[(Gore meant to say) "that he was responsible, in an economic and legislative sense, for fostering the development and technology that we now know as the internet." Snopes also said that Gore's statement was "clumsy". Right. Here again is Gore's quote from that day. "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative for creating the internet."

Let me summarize for you.

I said, "(Gore was) taking credit for its (the internet) existence". Gore said, "I took the initiative for creating the internet". Snopes said, "(Gore) was responsible for the development of the internet."

Now, go argue with someone else, please.

I specifically said that what I included was what you left out ("Here are some things you left out") - I included it to balance out your highly incomplete and misleading synopsis, and it's why I specifically said that others should read the Snopes piece. It was clearly not my intent to give ALL information, as the Snopes piece already is a good, balanced account.

The point is, there is a very strong argument to be made that Gore is the political figure most responsible for creating the internet as we know it today. He's been recognized and awarded for this work, summarized in the Snopes piece.

Even what is put in the wikipedia will not be 100% accurate. Whatever and wherever u read a piece of info, there's somebody behind it, who types and edits the info in.
As good readers, we need to be able to sieve unnecessary info and gather any relevant info from other sources. If for any reasons two persons read one thing and interpret it differently, it is a matter of perceptions.
We also need to present the piece of info in its entirety if we want to quote them and not cut them in pieces that might be confusing to others. Somehow I believe that you Zhimbo and Tomorrow have similar (not the same)views but you take the harsher way to convey your ideas. No matter what, i won't blame you or anybody else for having their own way. In the end, there are a lot of things that we may have to agree to disagree on issues and leave it there.

peace..:)

Yep, Warhummer is the one. (Sorry gmichael. Old age and infirmity once again robs me of my wits. I didn't get the quote quite right, either...but it's close, lol.)
