I think my Yamaha is DOA

I just hooked up the Yamaha RX-V867 I got from Newegg last week and it will not power on. This is the first Yamaha receiver I have had. I am using the remote and power button on the unit. Is there anything else I have to do in order to get power or is this receiver DOA?

It is entirely possible but very unlikely you have a doa unit (unless UPS dropped it a few times or something). I'd test other plugs but if nothing works newegg should replace it without any trouble.

Sounds like DOA to me. Better call Newegg immediately. Let us know what they say and how they intend to rectify this inconvenience to you.

Do you have a main powerswitch in the back of you unit?

My HD-Radio tuner has that. I fell into the same 'thought is was DOA' trap until I read the quick set up instructions which mentioned the main power switch on the back.

Carefully look at the manual for how to turn it on (though I think yours is straightforward, my Yamaha has two power switches, one which switches between on and standby, and the other that really turns it off, which means the other switch and remote cannot turn it on).

Also, try a different outlet for the receiver. You don't want to return a perfectly good receiver just because there is a problem with your outlet.

And yes, of course, it is always possible to get a DOA piece of equipment. Even from a company that makes equipment as reliable as Yamaha.

It's not DOA. The outlet I had it plugged into before I ran it through the wall was DOA. I just had to reset the breaker and it turned right on.

I am not surprised. Although no company has perfect reliability with their products, I thought it more likely that there was something else going on.
