I really like integrated amps

I only ever listen to the radio in my car too, so no tuner with my integrated, and no antena hooked up to my receiver.

This is how my logic works. A receiver should be the most expensive. It has all the parts in it. An integrated should be a little less expensive because it doesn't have a tuner. Then by the time you get to complete seperates, they should be cheap as all get out because they are just single pieces.

Can I get an Amen? ;)

I just looked in my Buyer's Guide and very few are more than 2 channel. There's a 5 channel Pathos for 8 grand and a 6 channel Thule for 5 grand. :(

Re:Can I get an Amen?

...Sorry, no.

A receiver may have "...all the parts in it..." But it's all on one chassis, in one cabinet, with one power suppy...and trade-offs are made to meet a price point...

Perhaps for the HT crowd multi-channel receivers are OK but I prefer separates...Integrateds DO somewhat qualify as they are a good place to start.

So, if you want to run a HT system, you have to have anywhere from 3 to 5 amps depending on how many channels they run? Isn't that a bit overkill?

Everything in our hobby is "over kill" to most ppl, but just think how cool an audio rack would look with just a Receiver or Pre/Pro up top, with 3 to 5 amps sitting under neath of it, thats my dream, needing a second audio rack for my game systems and video players.

OVERkill? :D The only improvement I'd like to make in my system would be to have monoblocks for every channel

Overkill was the wrong word.

I was thinking EXPENSIVE.

I'm also thinking that I doubt very much if at my age I can detect any differences in a system run by a decent receiver and one run by all monoblocks. :( My loss, I know.

...in sentence two, since laser totin' mechanical lizards are all the rage, multi ch recs may be OK for the HT crowd.

If I ever did succumb to the need for a deafening presentation of bad movies and other available A/V schlock in my home I'd still go for separates...they allow for a building block approach and are the best in flexibility...if your receiver goes belly-up, that's all she wrote...if one of your piece-parts takes a dive, a little rewiring will restore some semblance of a entertainment system.

jimHJJ(...did I mention my dislike of HT?...)

Many times (;)), but I don't see what the difference between playing music on a multichannel set and playing movies is. It's all sound and you want it to sound good, no?

Why would I want crappy sound for my HT but yet try to achieve good sound for music? I wouldn't. I want them to both sound equally good.

I am more concerned with music. HT just ends up benefiting from what I do to get it to sound the way I want for music, though there are some small compromises when it comes to sub level and dialing in the sweet spot for music listening.
