But a sub that powerful, wouldn’t be overkill for such small speakers?
I agree with Mazer. Overkill does not exist— Tongue in cheek as I am... once you begin to really hear music well produced and amplified perfectly? It's like standing near an acoustic bass being played: it's not so much about too loud or too soft. It's better said as Complete, Full, Not Thin, Nor Weak. I am a big classical music fan (and classic rock is included). I always hated how recordings didn't have the Big Bass you hear live.
Until I got a good sub, I had never heard that famous long deep low C pedal point at the very end of Mahler's Second. The whole orchestra and choirs and soloists are erupting into this resurrection music--- and that super deep, single organ note (played on the hall's pipe organ) — it goes on for a full minute while everything else is changing keys like crazy? It anchors Heaven Itself to earth.
That's not "Bass," it is Feeling, carried on sound waves.
I vote do it, yesterday. A 2.1 setup is and always will be magical when set up well.
