Hi, I purchased Kef LSX and they’ll be use as computer speakers, so I’ll be seating very close.
I’m anticipating that I will like to add a subwoofer.
A musical sub if that still a term these days.
The area available for a sub is only 13” wide so I’m looking at pretty small sub, probably an 8”.
(25” Depth and 25 height available)
Can you recommend a nice sub for music that might fit my needs? is the Kef Kube the answer?
There is a Martin Longan 700w on Craigslist right now for $400 too...
Thank you!

Carefully with used subs— if you can’t audition it with your music before buying? Pass on it.
SVS Sound in Ohio makes a great sealed small sub, About $400-500 US, direct from SVS. The SB1000 is much more powerful than its tiny size might indicate. I wasted years thinking a sub “can’t cost” more than 500 bucks. I bought cheap, but name brand. After my first “real” sub from SVS three years ago — I now understand what quality bass sounds like.So very much better than the Definitive Tech and the Polk Audio subs i bought for around $450 each that I was buying for decades, cuz some sales guy in an audio store told me they were great... Idiot, I was.

But a sub that powerful, wouldn’t be overkill for such small speakers? I don’t need big punch for music right? I listen to mostly classic rock.
So you ask for recommendations then question them.

No such thing as Overkill. And its not that Powerful. It's just one if the Best Bang for the Buck subs within Your requirements

I agree with Mazer. Overkill does not exist— Tongue in cheek as I am... once you begin to really hear music well produced and amplified perfectly? It's like standing near an acoustic bass being played: it's not so much about too loud or too soft. It's better said as Complete, Full, Not Thin, Nor Weak. I am a big classical music fan (and classic rock is included). I always hated how recordings didn't have the Big Bass you hear live.
Until I got a good sub, I had never heard that famous long deep low C pedal point at the very end of Mahler's Second. The whole orchestra and choirs and soloists are erupting into this resurrection music--- and that super deep, single organ note (played on the hall's pipe organ) — it goes on for a full minute while everything else is changing keys like crazy? It anchors Heaven Itself to earth.
That's not "Bass," it is Feeling, carried on sound waves.

I vote do it, yesterday. A 2.1 setup is and always will be magical when set up well.

Setup: Mostly plebeian, but carefully curated.
Denon AVR-X4400H, 9.2; Audyssey MultiEQ-XT32
Polk Audio RTiA series for L/C/R,
FXi series for Side Surrounds,
OMW5 for on-ceiling Atmos, at 5.2.4
Polk DSW-550 subs, two.
AppleTV 4K, Fire Stick 4K, QNAP NAS,
nanoAVR-DL (useless, don’t get me started)
MiniDSP 4x2HD for sub EQ and time-alignment
LG 55” 4K Dolby Vision
Innumerable beads of sweat
Thousands of frustrated, misspent hours
And one radiant smile just up ahead, off in the gloaming...

Just ordered onel
I hope you enjoy it! Your neighbors will love you too is you use an isolation pad between the sub and the floor. SVS sells these amazing rubbery isolation feet, $49, Amazon has the SubDude foam/MDF iso-pad — it’s more money and not as pretty, but it works very well. SVS feet a very close second. Next: to discover where in your music room are “leaks” of bass to other floors, or rooms and keep the sub away from there.
Vibrations of deep bass are a nuisance to an audiophile— but they are scary for the downstairs neighbor.. until they realize that earthquake sound is really a BluRay of Aquaman. Then scary turns furious. Avoid, avoid. They will never have kind thoughts for you again, I fear

Thank you for the tips.
Luckily I live in a house and the closest neighbor is probably over 150ft away.
This sub is going to be paired with Kef LSX as computer speakers, to listen to music while I work.
The computer is in the basement/family/movie room, so I already have home theater system there (McIntosh, B&W 8XX all around, and Supercube Reference)
Would this pad improve the sound of the sub or is it just in case you have neighbors near by?
The floor is padded and carpeted (not thick)
Thanks again, can’t wait to try it.

Black Ash, since it’s going under my computer desk, I didn’t want it to show too much, desk is black and computer is also all black.
Luckily, is the least expensive one.
I will let you know how it goes.
One thing I didn’t see, is the SVS matching tool.
They recommend the SB-2000 for the LSX.
And I was thinking the sb1000 was too big... I guess I know nothing about subs.
Anyways, the 2000 won’t fit under there and it’s a lot more money.
Thanks again.

Oh, you'll be set then! The basement, I'm assuming a slab cement floor, and that won't pass vibrations barely at all. But it can be slick to small sub knob-feet that come stock. Others on here have posted that concrete presents other challenges with bass, and I live in a wood floor apartment. A friend of mine told me his condo building is concrete slab, but the openings between floors for pipes, AC etc allow a lot of sound thru. That may come into play for you, too. Isolation helps keep the sub steady through increased friction of the grip the pad has.
The SB1000 sub front-fires, so some movement can happen during loud passages, and that can affect bass produced. I have one sub on an MDF iso-pad and one with the SVS iso-feet on it. Both never move, and better, my wood floor doesn't vibrate.

Hi, I received the LSX and SB-1000 on Saturday.
So far, I’m still trying to get the right sound out of them. I placed an order from Soundrise for their 9” pro stands which might help with the sound quality coming out of the LSX.
One weird thing I noticed is that I have to increase the volume on the SB-1000 pass 12 o’clock to get bass. Is this normal because it’s only a 300w amp?
Is the signal sub out from the LSX too low?
I’m still trying to balance that too.
I’m only listening to classic rock, so I don’t need much bass.
Thanks again.

How far did you get into setting up the speakers via the app? From what I was able to glean (I do not have the LSX - just interested) you can adjust the sub levels via the app in "Basic Mode":
