I finally got the Monitor Audio RS6s

After months of listening, reading, listening and reading, I finally chose the RS6s in black.
I got a very good deal for them and they should arrive next monday :D

I'm really stocked. For me this is the first "real" speakers I get for the living room. No more tiny computer cubes. A year ago I was almost ready to buy the bronze range. I'm glad I decided to wait, listen to more speakers and continue to read Audioholics ;)

Next month I'll get the center channel. Till then I'll just listen to music and watch movies in stereo. It will be nice to grow from 2.0 to 5.1 with quality speakers.

For amplification, as a temporary solution, I'll use the stuff that equips my home office. I have a Yamaha RX-V861 and a Behringer EP2500. Do you think the Behringer will be best? Although more noisy (even with the fan swap) it's much more powerful than the 861. On the other hand, the RS6s seem easy to power and I don't like to listen to loud music. The versatility of the various inputs on the receiver should tip the scale for the 861.
At least I want to try both to hear (or not) the difference between the receiver and the amp.
I wonder if the 861 will just do nicely.

I haven't decided on the side/rears but I'll probably get the RS1s.

I can't wait. I'm off to buy black, fat speaker cable (or maybe I'll just paint my BlueJeans Ten White).

Good choice! I haven't made up my mind yet but those are definitely in the running. Where did you get them? Can I get the same good deal?
Let us know how you like em.

WOW! There's no turning back from here on. Congrats on the new speakers.

If you look at my location you'll see Lisbon, Portugal:p
I ordered them from the UK. They're were opened for an audio show, but unused and are as new. Instead of the usual 1000-1100 USD I got them for 740USD.

The last audition was last weekend on one of those "Best Buy" type of stores, in the audio room. The amp was a Magnat MC1.
I used a mp3 player and a flac Vivaldi track (The four seasons). I think the seller was ready to sneer at the mp3 player, but once the music started playing he just stood there listening. The result was very pleasing.

i like the RS1's ... didn't like the RS LCR's (as mains), then again, i could have been over driving them.

LCR's as mains? As Left and Right? That's not too common. Well, it's a speaker after all, why not? :D
I haven't listened to the RS1s, but they'll be used for the rears. Normally they don't get more use than claps and bullets.

Congrats. I've seen the RS6's in person and have always thought it was a classy looking speaker. Enjoy! :D

Yey :D They've arrived.

Arggg.... one is broken :\

The binding post took a beating. At first only the woofer seem to be working, after two cable changes no sound at all.

This cover is made of plastic. Plastic? Oh man, what a way to cut costs

I'm waiting for the seller to say something.

Dude, that SUCKS!
You must be sooooooooo disappointed. I feel for you. There is nothing worse than waiting for something you ordered and having it arrive F'd up, especially speakers.
I hope you insisted on a full refund.
Well, good luck to you and let us know what happens.

Hopefully that is all the damage there is and they can just send you a new backplate.

That's what I'm asking. There's no need for sending 40 pounds of speaker just to replace this part. I'll see what he says. And hopefully it's just the solder joints that broke and not a crossover element.

But they're beautiful :D I think I'm gonna enjoy a mono session.

To hell with the mono session!
I took a look and there it was, a broken joint. So broken that it was 0,2in apart  That's how much the binding post went inside.

I took an alligator clip wire and connected the disconnected parts.

I works. It's just a case of making the new solder joint. I'll just listen some more over the weekend to make sure everything is OK. I'll start with Vivaldi :D

Atta boy, lemonaide from lemons. Looks like you're gonna have a good weekend after all. May I suggest a little Stravinsky/ Firebird Suite if you got it. That's always good for stretching out your speakers.
Cheers

I was relieved to see everything working as it should. Now let's see if the seller can send me a new back plate, or I have to send it all back.

Congratulations on the new speakers. I think we need more pics, though. Photos of damaged equipment are disheartening and we all need glamor shots of your new speakers to overcome our grief. I haven't had the opportunity to hear those speakers yet so I will await your detailed review (as compared to your previous set of cubes, I suppose).:D

I'll start my own thread in the Member Systems Gallery with all the pics :)

I don't know if I'll make a review of the RS6s. There's no point in comparing them to Creative Labs cubes I had. I could compare them to the Tannoys Reveal 6, but no one would be interested in that.
Only thing I can say is that for the price I could not get anything better :)

The seller will send me a new back plate.

Time to order the rest of the system ;)
