SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days.
Off China's coast, a U.S. destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.
The Kang Nam left the North Korean port of Nampo a week ago with the USS John S. McCain close behind. The ship, accused of transporting banned goods in the past, is believed bound for Myanmar, according to South Korean and U.S. officials.

Because we would start a nuclear war. Ever heard of Russia and China. They would nuke us and then everyone would be dead.

North Korea is a Chinese Proxy.

I honestly don’t think we need to worry about Russia. China on the other hand is more of a concern. Would it be prudent to park a couple of ships and maybe a sub off the coast of NK for a while?

Both....

Anyone as crazy as this guy with a finger on the button is bad news. I don't think that we should fire the first shot though. Just be ready to shoot anything down that heads our way.
China is even getting tired of this nut. It might be in our best interest to let them deal with their own back yard. We just need to stay ready.

China has too much invested in us to start anything. If they wanted us to fail they have economic options that would be much more effective.

Yes, it's tempting.

Burma/Myanmar is rapidly becoming one of the bad guys, if it's not already.

Unfortunately, we're at the mercy of the incredibly useless United Nations on this one. Look how well they are doing keeping the lid on the genocide in Africa. About as well as they did with that Serbia/Herzegovina thing ten or so years ago.

They are the ones that have to order a boarding and guess who will most likely be asked to do it?

Now, as for that missile that's going to be headed for Hawaii, well, I think we might have a bit more leeway in that situation. ...or we should! Don't we have the technology to blow it out of the air? or we hiding that until it's really, really needed?

We can certainly blow it out of the air.

Russia has the most nukes and did you forget what happened in Georgia or Europe this last year?

China is responsible for North Korea IMO. They chose to enter the war and drive us out. We let them have North Korea. They need to deal with their business. Myanmar is also a Chinese Proxy along with Vietnam.

I just hope we have no repeat of that Sri Lankan Genocide that already occured on the Tamils

North Korea should be considered a true rogue country at this point. Their leader comes across as nuts and probably doesn't care about any ramifications of a nuclear attack. He's old and is gonna die soon anyways. The creation of nuclear weapons will no doubt be viewed as the worst invention of mankind if we survive the coming generations.

Message? I'd be more worried about the people killed.
There won't be a nuke on the test missile and it isn't capable of reaching U.S. soil. If our missile defense fails to shoot down N. Korea's missile over the Pacific, it'd be a disaster as it shows we blew billions on a useless system and also tells N. Korea and Iran they can get a missile through the shield.

The solution is simple, if North Korea fires a missile your way, you fire ten back right over their territory and have them splash down in international waters on the other side. We can test our missiles too.

North Korea and Iran can easily start a conflict that would escalate beyond our imagination.

Makes me wonder if this was the "unpopular decisions" that Joe Biden was talking about. It has been 6 months.

Nothing good about this situation at all. Unfortunately the ball seems to be in the hands of the UN. Hope they pull through when it is time. All you can do is hope.

Why can’t we just shoot down their “test missiles” with a few of our own “test defense missiles”?

I repeat, what happens if our missile shield fails to shoot down a North Korean missile. The shield doesn't exactly have a good testing record.

I agree with the earlier Jack Bauer comment. While I don't think we should just go around assassinating every leader we disagree with, this is a better option than getting many Americans killed going to war.
This guy is crazy and dangerous and should be dispatched. Our guy could take care of this little problem on his way to Iran.
