I was playing with the receiver this morning, trying all the buttons. And bass EQ just makes the bass loud and muddy. The best way to get just a little bit of good bass is to turn up the bass knob an eighth of a turn, any more and it gets muddy too.

They are too close together, and they shouldn't be flush with the rest of your gear. I'd pull them away from the gear at least a foot and out at least 6". They look great though. Better than the last black ones I say.

These are the WAF positions of the speakers. They will certainly be in these spots when people are over. When really listening, I will remove the grills, move them out and set them 8' apart. Or for a movie night.

If you think you want to do the Peel 'N Seal and mineral wool mod, be warned that you WILL lose some bass extension and some efficiency. The mod decreases the effective volume of the cabinet and also attenuates the sound somewhat. However, to me, the gains from the mods far outweigh the costs. I personally noticed much less coloration in the midrange, specifically vocals.

Thanks for the response Jax. I wonder how it would change if the peel and seal was applied the outside of the cabinet vs. the inside? What would the effect of the dampening be without the change in volume (along with ruining the aesthetics of the speaker) Would it be as dramatic a difference?

My speaker stands had sand fill, not the cabinets themselves (the ones all the way to the right on THIS page. They even shipped the sand with the pedestals.

I appreciate the non-combative, non-condescending discussion from both you and WmAx. Other forums would've degraded into name calling by now.

BTW, abe, nice speakers Getting them in the door is the first step. Everyday now, inch them a little further apart. Your wife won't even notice after a week

Spikes are great if you have carpet. I wouldn't use them on hard surfaces.

EDIT: Wives notice EVERYTHING!!!! It just takes them a little more time when you're sneaky.

The NAD 7155 came today. Ebay is a great invention. It sounds great and plays louder than I need it to. It does crackle a bit when changing the volume, but I will make a new thread about that.

No need for a new thread on this. Oxidized contacts on the potentiometer usually cause this.

Get a small can of Caig DeoxIT spray. It comes with one of those plastic straws, similar to WD-40 cans, that lets you spray into small hard to reach areas. With the power off, use the straw to spray a small amount onto the shaft of the volume knob. Work the knob back and forth after you spray it. Give it one shot a day until enough oxidation is cleaned off to improve the crackling.

Use as a general treatment for connectors, contacts and other metal surfaces, and on non-critical metal surfaces with severe oxidation and corrosion. I think you should change it to the leader of the world. This would avoid confusion with other world leader claims.

Thanks for the advice on the cleaner. Somewhere on the forum it was recomended that I just spin the volume dial with the unit turned off. I did this for about 30 sec. and when turned back on, the scratch went away. If the prob. comes back I will go grab some cleaner.

In the meantime though I am just enjoying the sound of the speakers.
