HSU STF-2 demo - sounds terrible!

It appears that the general concensus is that the HSU was broken or set up wrong.

I appoligize since I may have seemed a little inflamatory with some of my responses.

Thread over.
I would lock it if I knew how.

Not yet, lol!

Hsu DOES have a user/auditioning network. It's new and developing. I see you just joined their forum. Go in and you'll find the link in there, somewhere...under member systems, perhaps. Or maybe Peter Marcks will chime in.

Happy sub hunting.

Yes, the HSU sounded boomy and bloated to me. But as others have mentioned it could be a bad unit. When I go back I'm going to investigate closer. Powerline does have a liberal return policy so you may want to try one at home and decide for yourself.

I have owned several HSU subs through the years, ranging from the dual TN-1220's, HRSW-12V, VTF-2 & 3, as well as the STF line. One thing I concluded time after time with the HSU subs is that they were more room/placement dependent than any other sub I have owned. I never could get the VTF-2 to sound good. It was boomy and undefined to me. all the others sounded good (NOT great) after much trial and error with placement, with the best of the bunch actually being the HRSW-12V. Now I am fortunate enough to own a Velodyne DD-15 and it only took 1 minor adjustment, placement wise, to have the best bass I have ever heard in my system. I used to really, really want to believe that HSU was as big of a homerun as everyone wrote about, but I never got to that point with mine.

The DD15 is a different animal...I'm jonesing for one now. I have heard a VTF2 briefly. It was a nice sub. Not close to the Velo, then again not much is.

Is it a low serial number STF-2? I know they had some issues with some of the lower serial number ones. The area around the woofer was not air tight and air would escape while playing. Their is/was a thead on the HSU forums if you want more info.
