I know this... But remember this amp was replaced at NO CHARGE... So I will take that over spending money on another amp.. In any case if I have issues, I will most certainly talk a drive down to GC... In fact I did check the local in stock of the Crown and Yamaha and they didn't stock them.. I would have had to order them... You did good and I learned something. At least it's in my knowledge base now for future purchase.
If you have never been into a GC, then you owe it to yourself. It is really geared towards pros and musicians, but there is plenty to see.

Also, they always have used gear too. I tend to trust GC to check out the gear pretty well before they buy it.

Wow, who do you blame, Emo or the carrier. I have been considering Emo amps, but I hear reviews going both ways. ematthews, whats your opinion on Emo, I see you're no stranger to the brand. Although this might be a bad time to ask. Feel bad for ya on the last one, hope it works out. Thanks in advance for your insight.
I have a lot of Emo and most of the products are very solid. I had a problem with my XPA-2 amp and it took a while and talking to the right person to get it replaced.. I'll just say I went to the top over there. That is one thing that is nice. The owner is accessible.. They have good service and on my budget they allow me to get into separates for the first time.. I can recommend them.. They are good.

I have been in there plenty of times. I have been playing drums over twenty years and go there for gear all the time.. I just sold my kit and putting all my focus on Hifi and HT now..

I wont be able to hook everything up until Saturday to listen to it.
So... did it work?

Packaging Engineering is a discipline unto itself. The goal is the best protection for the least cost. Most companies either have their own Packaging Engineers, or hire an outside firm. I remember pre-formed styrofoam, sprayed foam that expanded and hardened, cardboard, etc. Packing keeps getting better, lighter and cheaper. BUT, few things can withstand the abuse that sometimes happens in shipping.

I know the excitement of receiving some new gear. When a package shows damage, it's tough to refuse it and certainly delay gratification. The temptation is to accept it, take your chances, and return under warranty if necessary. I think you did what I likely would have done. Accept the package... take pictures... try it... inform manufacturer of the shipping damage whether it works or not.

I was a traffic manager for many years working for an Electronics repair facility, test equipment and I can tell you, that I had much less damage claims from shipment with ups than freight companies shipping wts up to 120 pounds. Anything over 100 lbs got special handling, by the drivers. The freight companies are good with large, heavy items on pallets, but 100 to 120 lb items not on pallets were just man handled. I did this for many years with several companies handling different products. Ups was the best in it's weight class, fed ex not so much. It had become too politically correct back in the eighties and nineties, with the people it sought to hire. Had to be the correct mix of male, female, minorites large, tall, short, young, old you name it. I applied there once, when i checked to see who was being hired the manager told me he was hiring that month black females with 2.3 children on average. Sad state of affairs.

That was exactly my experience working there at night, while in school during the day.

UPS has gotten a lot better here over the years, in regards to package condition upon arrival. Sometimes I'd get boxes with holes in them or just beat up, but for years now, they've arrived in really good condition for the most part. FedEx used to outshine UPS, but they're on par here now. The USPS used to beat them both, but now all three are about the same.

The double boxing on the Emo amps is a nice touch. Physically, mine arrived fine. My first SVS PC13-Ultra showed up with a big hole in the box from UPS that scared the s**t out of me, but nothing got damaged near that hole. The dented top grate told another story, though. :) But, SVS replaced it without hassle (in fact, I said that a new top grate would be good enough, but Tom insisted on shipping out a brand new unit).

I'm not sure if Purolator or UPS was responsible for all this, most likely both. There's a puncture wound that goes clear through the box and is about an inch in dimeter. Plus there was extra tape added by one of the shipping companies because the box started to fall apart in transit.

So far around me Fedex is still the best. OTOH, that's like saying which sh!t tastes the best

I had a $12K server shipped freight from Old Dominion. They drove a forklift tine through box into the server. You could take a flash light and see it's innards through the hole.

They actually delivered it. Or at least attempted too.

I double boxed my EP2500 and shipped USPS. They managed to wreck it still. The amazing thing? Even after it looked like it was tossed through a combine/harvester the thing STILL powered up and worked according to the person I sold it to. USPS was great about handling the insurance however.

Shipping happens :D

I've had packages that get handed off to different couriers. It will start UPS, then get handed over to US Mail. Too many packages to move without some collaboration.

Seems like a greater incidence of damage is just part of the normal operation. Just too many boxes being moved, compared to 15 or 20 years ago.
Don't be surprised to see the whole grid lock up again, if we have snow storms this Christmas delivery season.

I like that Emotiva double boxes pretty much everything too though. My box for my UMC-200 was also in pretty bad shape, but the second box inside was fine as was the unit itself.
