How do you arrange payment?

Just wondering what you guys think is a good way to arrange payment if you were to try to sell some of your gear in this classified section.

I have a brand new, in the box, Rocket Tyke 5.1 speaker set that I had planned to use in the bedroom, but never did. I was thinking of advertising it here to see if anyone would want it, but then the question of payment came to mind. I don't have a PayPal or similar account, nor do I want to obtain one. I guess I would have to ask for a check or money order before sending the speakers if anyone were interested.

Paypal

I've been using it for years and I'm pretty happy with it. It offers you both buyer and seller protection in most cases, providing the other party is a verified member.

I haven't had to deal with them from a negative standpoint yet, so I can see where someone who has would have a different point of view. I try to screen my purchases/sales via lots of communication with the other party. You can usually tell if someone is a flake. Most recent transaction actually was with Mr. JohnA there...:) (thanks)

safe payment method

paypal is not safe for anybody, buyer or seller, see the website listed above, speaking as one who has taken it in the seat from paypal i'll never use them again to buy or sell.

the safest way to make or accept payment is cod(cash on delievery)

as a gesture of good faith i usually ask for all shipping & cod charge's to be paid in advance from the buyer with the remiander to be paid in cash only with fedex.

Both have their ups/downs

I have been using paypal for some time with no incidents so far (about 3-4 years). COD isn't as safe as the other method of payments, in fact, it is extremely unsafe. You base your transaction solely on faith. Money order is even worse not to mention western union. I once bought something for $500 with money order. I sent it to him only to see it gone. Whenever possible use your credit card to pay with Bidpay (they are closing as i typed). You can use paypal but select credit card as your primary payment method. Anything comes up, cancel through your credit card company.

im glad you have found a payment method that your comfortable with but i assure you that for somebody accepting paypal for payment it's not safe,go to paypal sucks.com & read up on all the "charge back's" ,my story is the same.

i too had nothing but god luck with paypal until it turned bad & when it did i quickly found out that paypal only look's out for paypal.

i accepted payment via paypal for an expensive amplifier, sent the amp in factory packing via ups next day air as the buyer wished,i recieved an email from the buyer saying he loved the amplifier, several week's later my paypal account was charged back over 2k for the amplifier purchase with the reason listed as faulty equipment,i have never recieved the amplifier back & emailing paypal to fight it was a waste of time.

so the buyer ended up with all his cash back plus a brand new amplifier worth over two thousand dollar's & all i was left with was the court system, lawyer's & law suit's,i personally did not have the time to fight all of it out over an interstate law suit but i assure you that paypal was no help to me.

for me cod has been great, the buyer must pay me the shipping charge's up front & if he dont follow through with the sale at time of delievery then i get my gear back & all im out is time, the same goes when i buy gear, when the fedex guy show's up i open the box to inspect the content's & if it's acceptable then i pay him if it's not then i refuse the package.

Highfi, I think your COD method will work. For those who still have and still intend to use paypal, i'd say don't leave any money in there. If you link it to your checking account, leave that one to minimal as well. Paypal can freeze and even take money from your checking account faster than you can drink a shot of vodka. Check your paypal account regularly and ask them any charges that you are not familiar with. That's what I do and it saves me from the disaster. I feel sorry for you Highfi..:(
